Life's too short and expensive to try' em all so, I am interested in opinions from those experienced shooters and barrel experimenters.

What common barrel contours tend to be the most accurate?
Do some contours work better with certain calibers?
Are some less temperamental to load for/tune?
Will some stand fluting better without accuracy loss?

I am looking to find the lightest way to achieve accuracy to meet certain weight classes for precision sports.

A question of shape affected harmonics, rather than, maker/quality.

What certain weight classes, for which precision sports? Check out Varmint Al. http://varmintal.com/amode.htm

He has some pretty detailed analyses of fluted barrel harmonics. Once I read that, I decided that there are just too many factors to go into that level of investigation, for me. I bought a nice barrel, that fit the look and feel of the rifle I wanted to end up with, (contour and use), heavy barrel for precision shooting off a bipod, prone. I then found a couple of loads that work really nicely in MY gun, MY barrel, MY twist rate. Your results will be different, based on your needs and wants.

I am seeking knowledge on the relationship between form(contour) and harmonics (ability to tune) regardless of precision sport it will be used.

It is a benefit to achieve maximum accuracy in the lightest package for most types of shooting. Allowing for greater weight to be allotted to optics, stock, supports(bi-pod) etc. and still meeting weight restrictions applied in most precision sports authorities and most hunters as well.

Are any contours(fluted, straight taper, bull, stepped, double-radius, FWT) , through experience, easier or problematic to tune( larger sweet-spot)? I am aware that the answers have little to do with science and will be mostly anecdotal, but it would be nice to hear sage advice from those in the know.
