I'm thinking of another .338. I like the looks of the Kimber Super-America, but have not seen or handled one in person. Like to hear your thoughts/opinions on this model. Fit and finish, accuracy etc.
Cheers

For that kind of money I'd look at a Sauer 202. You know it will shoot and be top quality.

Kimber

Seems on the 'net people love 'em or hate 'em. Either accurate or really lousy. Just a thought. Fed up waiting for a new Winchester Alaskan .338's to arrive in Canada.

I have been looking at this kind of stuff lately. It seems as though folks have had mixed results with the 84M and 8400, while everyone seems to be happy with the 84L. That is why I started a thread asking if barrel suppliers have changed.

I'd be hesitant to spend that kind of money on an 8400 if it is hit/miss. There are too many other good options - Sauer, Cooper w/upgraded wood and even the Sako 85 Classic Deluxe.

I really like Kimbers, and have had a few(6), but I'd stay away from the 8400's. If they come out with an 84L in 338-06, that would be cat's a$$, but don't hold your breath. There's talk of a 35 Whelen though. The attraction of the light weight of Kimber is lost in the 8400 series as well.

If price is secondary, but it has to have nice wood/bluing, I'd go for a Cooper Custom Classic in 338-06, Clay has a couple of beauties. Of course, if it needs to be 338WM, be prepared to wait.

Kimbers are "generally" nice looking firearms, a well balanced fit and finish gun. If your looking for a Super America in 338 Winchester magnum, well there is one at Wholesale Sports in Calgary.

I'm on my fourth Kimber now all purchased used off the EE and my buddy currently hunts with an 8400 in .270
All have been good shooters and I only had problems with one Montana in 7-08 that Suffered light primer strikes resulting in misfires.
Kimbers sold in Canada Now have a warranty.
The lumber on even the low end classic models is gorgeous, but ultimately you have to handle one in person before you can decide.

Betcha' that gun was pawned off on him because it didnt shoot... :D

FWIW, just the "word" in cyber space has very little talk of poor shooting Kimber Classics, and Super 'Murica's. Also there is very little talk of poor shooting long action 8400's in general.

A lot of the gawk I read about is poor shooting 84M Montanas and poor shooting 8400 WSM Montanas.

As mentioned before, Kimber has a Canadian warranty center.

Our local shop has a 8400 Super in .300 WM, its a very nice gun if you like wood/bluing.
