Opinions on Nikon M-Tactical scopes

I have seen some good deals on those scopes. BTW, I am fully aware that Nikon is no longer making scopes. That being said, the features and specs are impressive and reviews are generally good.

The intended application is for a long range hunting rig in .257 Weatherby Mag.

Does anyone have actual experience with these scopes? What does their optical quality compare to?
 
Good clarity but there are better scopes in the same price range. Consider investing a few extra dollars und jumping into Leupold VX3. Watch the exchange threads for a a used Mark 4 or a Swarovski.
 
they r e great but as you re fully aware they re no more made nor we can get an answer if they can be serviced or not if needed. even at a good price you re taking a gamble. i removed all the scopes that cannot serviced even the good ones like the nikon monarch 1-4x20 in german 4 ...
 
I have the Black x-1000 (30mm) and m-308 (1") in 4-16. Both are good scopes, the x-1000 is a much clearer scope, the m-308 is at it's best around 12-14x.

Just as a clarification. I already have decent glass on that rifle (Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 257Wby Mag. ), in the form of a Bushnell Elite 3500 3-9X50. My reason for looking at the Nikon is that the scope features tactical turrets and side focus/parallax adjustment, which are two features that make it desirable for long range shooting/hunting. The specific scope that I am looking at is the Nikon M-Tactical 3-12X42 MK1-MRAD.

And BTW, I do have a battery of other hunting rifles that can handle other hunting situations.
 
I too have been 'scope shoppin' and chose the Cabelas Covenant tactical FFP in 6-24x50. Due to arrive tomorrow via Mr-brown. The reticle has MOA hashes, with numbers on the hash. Should make it easy to adjust holds - I have a Bushnell Engage Deploy which has the MOA but no numbers. I have to count marks to hold over which is OK for paper, but not if in the bush. I'm in NB and we have a cold, windy spell coming so I may not get out for a week or so to tell how I like it. I looked at the Nikon Ms and Vortex but didn't care for the rets.
