Opinions on Nikon?

I see Nikon has an exciting (to me) new line coming out with the Black x1000 and Force1000 scopes.

And Nikon's warranty is pretty much exactly the same as Vortex's VIP.

I emailed Nikon myself and they said their warranty applies world wide, so no worries there. Also, I don't anticipate needing it, as I don't hear much bad about Nikon's being DOA right out of the box, or spinning reticles and the like.

What are your opinions on Nikon?
 
I handled some black x1000 in mrad the reticles have improved there actually thin now! The illuminated reticles where very nice and had some nice ranging and hold overs not that sh!tty bullet drop circle garbage. Even there old duplex reticles where not terribly suited for target shooting much too thick to see the impact points. Plinking and hunting where what I used them for. Very much like a sightron now. The biggest complaint of them was the tactical knobs felt a little cheap and cheesy not terribly positive predictable clicks. As for tracking not sure. Nikon will customize your turrets to bullet grain weight and type it's a nice touch. There not terribly heavy. Nikon is also the only scope manufacture that makes there own glass and coatings I'd say they are on par with some Japanese glass or Filipino leupolds. They are getting much better each year and taking suggestions. I like that they have mrad not just moa now. Lifetime warranty and clay will just exchange over the counter if he has it in stock but they don't have to do that very often I hear. I'm thinking of getting one for my target orientated .22's as I wanna see what's going on downrange. Mrsp was about 1000 for the big dog and 800 for the little one
 
I have a couple Monarch 3's and a Prostaff 5 that I have been happy with.
Nice and bright and clear and priced competitively.
No experience with the new Nikon's you mention but I would expect them to be nice.
 
Side note if I had a choice between non HD vortex series scopes I would and always will pick Nikon I refuse to send back a scope to be constantly replaced and serviced. Other side note the turrets are very similar to vortex prs scope series only I assume not the same warranty problems with fog condensation and illumation controls etc. Vortex rubbed me the wrong way I got a broken in box scope from new the only saving grace was I sold it for more then I bought it because it was always broken and I never got to use it. By the time I got t back the dollar had crashed and I had enough of that junk so I posted it for sale.
 
I adjust scopes at my range, Nikon had been solid. I have never had an issue with a Nikon scope.
Quality / price seem to be a good value.

I have not used or worked with this particular model though, I hope quality is similar between models.
 
I agree with the reticle not being the greatest... too thick and the open circles of hope...

But the reviews I keep reading are very positive and they are priced competitively with Vortex and Bush ell it seems.

I'm in the hunt for a new scope for my 270wsm and Nikon keeps comimg to the top of the list when I look.
 
Dudes that new 1-4 power scope was like frickin awesome Thats my next hunting scope clear as day and great eye relief and I liked the illumination reticle it was handy for quick aiming
 
I would not hesitate to buy another Nikon Monarch. Nor would I take a cheaper Leupold over one and I have Leupold VX-L and VX-III. I think the Nikon is better value.

You said the Nikon Black had cheap feeling turrets?
 
I have a monarch 3 and absolutely love it. After some extensive research online and in person comparing many different scopes I felt the Nikon was the best bang for your buck and also had very bright and clear glass. I compared it directly to a vortex viper and I felt the Nikon had better glass. Not to say I don't like vortex because I do but at the price point the monarch 3 was the best choice for me. Just my opinion but I'm loving the monarch 3 and it's on my hunting rifle and will be for a long time. As for the new Nikon's I haven't had a chance to see them but I am definitely interested.
 
I have Nikon Monarch 3's in various magnifications and reticle styles, as well as Leup VX 3's, and Zeiss HD 5's. The Nikon's are mounted on calibres ranging from 22 to 458. I've said this may times when this question comes up that I cannot tell the difference in quality or clarity of glass when using the aforementioned trio. The advantage that Zeiss has is that it has a 5x magnification zoom ratio vs 4x for VX 3's & Monarch 3's. Zeiss is slightly better low light conditions as well.
Nikon makes a decent product in my mind.

Compared to my higher end scopes absolutely but I run uso and s and b. So I'm kind of saying it like an elitist I would suspect when your shooting and not thinking about what the knobs are physically made of and more about down range it would be one of those things you don't even think about. I'm sure they track great I just would be concerned about dropping the rifle in a way the turrets take a hit because there exposed and they are plastic. The clicks are ok there not super satisfying when they click to me like in my own opinion but I'm really picking it apart i would absolutely buy one and plan on buying one cheers
