Looking at a Ruger MK11 all weather boat paddle 7.62x39 rifle used.

How do these shoot?
Any probs?
What boltface does this round share if I wanted to rebarrel later?

The rifle has the boat paddle stock with stainless bolt and hardware but the barreld action is blued?? Is this configuration from Ruger?
I seem to recall seeing this weird combo in a Ruger ad before but not sure??

Thanks

If you want a bolt action so chambered you could do much worse. I wouldn't rebarrel, there is some interest in those rifles and they are easy to sell. Accuracy will be good although cheap surplus will never produce the best accuracy possible.

They are a nice gun, I recently had a chance to shoot a zastava bolt gun in. 7.62x39 that was blues with a wood stock that was a tad more accurate and cheaper. With any of the options out there that use a mini Mauser type of action you can't really go too wrong

I have one... it is one of my favorite rifles and the most accurate out of the box rifle I've owned. It will hold 2" 5rd groups at 200m with federal blue box soft point ammo. It is not bad with the surplus ammo either. My action is stainless, as are the other 7.62x39 canoe paddle Ruger mkII rifles that I've seen.

Extractions will get sticky with lacquored steel case ammo, need to clean the chamber every once in a while when it gets sticky.

The #1 thing to look for is the condition of the bore, if someone shot corrosive ammo in it and didn't clean it will be pitted. A quick look down a clean bbl will tell you all you need to know.

The bolt face for the 7.62x39 is the same as the PPC cartridges and the 220 Russian. I would buy that rifle just to shoot cheap surplus ammo and leave it as is.

I had one and it shot fine. The one thing that bothered me about it though was it was built on a .308 length action, and then utilized a magazine block. It works fine, but it would have been much nicer on a .223 length action similar to the CZ527.
