Recently, I looked at S&W model 60 with 5" barrel in the store. I really liked how it felt in the hand. I was considering buying .357 mag for a while, but other revolvers just felt too bulky. I, however, have reservations about small frame on model 60. Do you guys think it can handle .357 mag well?

Not meant to be a "target" gun. Designed to be a compact wheelgun that can handle a moderate diet of .357 loads.

I would say it will wear faster than say a L frame models 586/686 or N frame models 627/27/28.

It is what it is. You need to decide what you really want it for. Then go from there.

NAA.

The early ones were actually 1 7/8 barrels (sold as 2 inch) truly a classic, but even with a 5 inch tube, I'll bet they're not that comfortable with 'plus p' loads, and on the 'quite snarly' side with 357's. I'll bet you shoot more 38's with it than 357's once you've tried it. I used 357 loads exactly once in a J frame (Mdl. 640), the load was the Federal 125 grain Police load, amazing noise, blast and fireball, and my hand was really quite bruised after 4 cylinders. J frames are best enjoyed with 38 Special loads.
