Opinions on Sig certified preowned?

Does anyone have first hand experience with Sig certified preowned pistols? Are they worth it, ie. the bargain that they are made out to be. Or is it better to buy new??

I am asking because I am student at the moment and I survive on instant noodles and cereals.

Sig 226 Cpo

I got one from TSE and used it for IPSC matches & practice last season. I bought it sight unseen but it arrived in excellent condition & I have had no problems with it, shooting mostly Winchester 147gr.

The magazines drop free every time, and although the bases are plastic they haven't come apart or broken, and are reasonably easy to disassemble for cleaning.

I shoot left handed and this pistol is easy to manipulate for me (large hands).

I haven't tried the newer SIGs but I doubt they would be worth the premium over a CPO, especially on a student budget.

There are some small differences between the new/current Sigs and the ones that are refurbished. If you buy refurbished (CPO) ones, I suggest that you go to the local gun store and examine 3 - 4 and pick the best one out of them.

Every one of them is different in some way. Some are worn, some look brand new. Trigger pull and slide/frame fit are all different too.
 
All of the CPO guns we have brought in have been like new, but most have been the older folded slide type. Only a handfull have had the new milled SS slide.
 
In regards to the folded vs machined slides on the CPO guns:

It's not necessarily a bad thing, guys, to get a folded steel slide. If you head on over to sigforum.com, you'll see that they're just as desirable, if not more so, than the machined slides.

Personally, I like the machined slides more, as they're heavier; on my P229, I want some weight to keep that muzzle in line when .40 heads out the end.
 
I did a tour of the SIGarms factory a few years back, and after watching them make pistols, I was shown the area where they were refurbishing the used ones. It appeared they pretty much stripped them and put in alot of new parts and fixed them up pretty and looked pretty much identical to brand new ones in the next room over. Funtion-wise, I'd say there's no issue: they'll work great. I'm not up price-wise on what they charge for those. If the price difference is big, then it's a fantastic deal. If it's only a couple $100, then it's only a minor deal. (As in: the Sig has been built and inspected to be found good, then later, inspected AGAIN and found good. So 2x the quality control...) Probably buying a used Sig well maintained by a CGN'r is probably the best deal of all.
