Hi: I just acquired a Spanish "Fabrica de Armes" "La Coruna" 1947 mauser today...Its your typical mauser short rifle , 7.92x57 cal , straight bolt , reminds me of Czech VZ-24 with the type of top handguard and furiture it has on it....It has a smooth action , the machining looks pretty well finished , not rough...Bolt operates nicely , has a steel triggerguard / floorplate with capture screws , and a steel follower...All in all it sems like a well made rifle...

So I'm wondering what you guys think of these Spanish post war M98's? Is their quality up to par?

Thanks for your input..........

The Spanish made and used mausers for a long time. There were a lot of poorly refurbed rifles on the market for quite awhile. We took some of these and made up some darned nice sporters out of them, from what I can remember, the actions were very square though not particularly tight. They also polish up really well and take a nice even blue. As 8mm shooters, if the bore is good, it will shoot as well as any other mauser. The one thing that I didn't like about any of them, was the wood used in the stock, quite soft and prone to shifting, maybe that's why they used such a heavy coat of shellac. All in all, a fine mauser and if in decent condition, will give fine service. The Spanish liked their rifles and were very insistant on makeing sure that their troops had the best, even if their other equipment wasn't up to par. Their modern weapons are among the best in the world, and at the time they were makeing mausers, they were held in high esteem by the rest of the world as well. bearhunter

known for heaspace issues, receivers on the soft side as Mausers go. Definitely on the LOW end in terms of Mauser pricing for nice examples.

Decent looking guns though :)
