In my experience the rougher parkerized finish of the express makes them a little rougher to cycle than a wingmaster, but that should get better over time with some use. I have never had any reliability issues with my 870 over the years and many cases of ammo through it (3" steel, slugs, trap load etc.). As for comparing it to a 590 I can't help you on that (never handled one).

Cheers

My 870 Express has been pretty good to me so far. I did have some jamming problems when I first got it but after a quick fix it was golden. Can't complain for the $329 or whatever I paid for it.

I got a express super mag. I've put probably 300 rounds of 3 1/2 inch steel shot threw it not 1 jamming problem. Great gun for the price.

If you've shot the parkerized wingmasters you'll notice that the blued express isn't as smooth to cycle right out of the box. I've found with mine that it smoothed out over time and if you want you can take the dremel and polishing compound and do some quick work on the action.

Overall it's a great gun, superb value for the money and I've never had a failure of any kind with mine.

The 6+1 Express (used to be called the Security model I think) comes with a bead blasted blued finish, and can be a little rough when new. Continued use, and/or a little polishing of some internal parts can fix this up quite a bit, and most will find even the Wingys get a little looser with use.

Got one siting right here. All in all a good gun at a fair price. $459 for one around my neck of the woods.

The finish is not the only difference. Some parts are not machined and polished as fine as on the Wingmaster and Police. Also there are some parts made from different materials. Also between the Express and Police (not sure about Wingmasters) spring strengths are not the same. That being said the Express is still a great buy.
