Opinions on the Dillon 550 case feeder for 9mm

Does anyone have experience with a 550 and a case feeder for 9mm? How reliable are they?

I've read a couple old threads and some people like them and some people have problems with it jamming. I tumble using SS media so there should be no problems with left over pieces of media clogging the feeder.

Ideally I would like to sell my 550 and get a 650 with feeder but I'm obviously trying save some money here.

I have a friend that has a 550 with a case feeder that he uses for .45 and the tube jams on him often. I think in his case it's not a media issue though, just an issue with the way the 550 case feed tube is.

Are we talking about the feed tube jamming or the case feeder plate? With my 650, 9mm does jam up the feed plate fairly regularly as the brass doesn't always drop in time before advancing to the point where it's against the blue plastic hull of the case feed hopper. I find it works better on the slow setting when doing 9mm as the brass has more time to drop before the case feed plate advances too far.

I had one. It worked fine in .40

When I switched to 9mm...it became a jam o matic. They have to be kept very clean and require peridoic adjustment.

I actually hated my 550 after I put the case feeder on...

Nice idea...but you can tell it's a retro fit.

I have been using a casefeeder on my 550 since Dillon released them (early 2006?). I love it. The first day or two took a little tweaking, but it has worked great ever since. Like any piece of machinery, it's needs cleaning once in awhile - mostly the aluminum case glide plate and the primer mechanism.

As for Quigleys problem with 9mm jamming, Dillon supplied an insert for the upper tube to prevent the cases from turning horizontally.

The Enos forums has a section dedicated to 550's and has extensive threads on tips/tricks to help people set up their casefeeders.
