First I didn't know where to post this, I consider it a hunting rifle, however, we all know what this particular rifle started...

anyways I digress, I was wondering if people had an opinion of the mini 14 rancher? seems like a decent priced rifle by a reputable manufacturer including decent aftermarket support?
in .223 it seems like a fun range gun?

what's CGN's opinion?

I have one.

I have one. I like it I put a holosight on it and it. It always shoots and I have had no problems with it.
Some people will say the acccuracy ispoor. But my rifle shoots pretty good. It shoots better than my buddys AR.
But you should expect a pretty large grouping.

But I dont regret buying my rifle. It was my first semi!!

I have the mini-14 target (bull barrel) model with adjustable compensator. Much more accurate compared to the plain ranch rifle. I was hesitant to purchase a mini due to criticism about its accuracy. The target model adresses this issue very well. With a good scope it makes it a formidable hunting rifle and groundhogs have a lot to fear!

I have one, Bought it used here with a few mods, muzzle brake, har-bar, I found it to be an excellent gun that shoots 2-3" groups all day. I had one years ago and it sucked as it would key hole and after it got hot would shoot 12-15" groups. I used to use a bolt gun for yotes but have been using this lately. A little research and a little work can do wonders for accuracy. Plus good luck finding a Non Res .223 semi under a grand.

I have the wood-stocked/blued version in .223, and I really like it. It is almost like having a M14 and M1 carbine in one, and gets fairly decent groups at 50 yards.

IMHO who needs a AR 15 or a Swiss arms when you can get one of the newer Mini 14s. :stirthepot2:

I have one as well , I like it ! just dont like the price of ammo and hard to find sometimes.... but other than that pretty good , lots of after market products for it ...

I liked the one I had. It wasn't that accurate but I still liked it. I'd buy another one, but probably the mini-30, as someone else mentioned, .223 goes to my AR.

I had one that would do 2" groups at 100 yards after I put a muzzle break on it. It never skipped a beat and kept on chuggin'

I've got an ar180b now and I like it but I've got concerns about its polymer lower strength; it does not seem as robust as my Mini-14.

The problem with the mini-14 is that its ugly and mags are hard to come by.

As far as non-restricted goes there is nothing cheaper in a .223 semi-auto to be had, and they are perfectly suited for my purposes. I had a 580 series that was twice as bad (accuracy wise) as my SL8 for a third of the price, and in hindsight I'd like to get the Mini-14 back and not have had the HK, simply because 2-3" 100m groups are good enough for my uses, and the Mini comes in a much much smaller package.

If you're going to be using it exclusively for paper punching at the range there are many other (and probably better) choices, but for a (relatively) inexpensive compact working rifle with "good enough" accuracy and excellent reliability the Mini is tough to beat.

Note I'm speaking of the 580 series Ranch Rifle, as I've no experience with the Target model.

I have a Mini14 Ranch rifle. stainless steel, 580 series. I have never had any great problems with it. I think it is a fine looking rifle, not too accurate, but good enough at 100 yards. A nice compact rifle that never screws up. Great for coyotes and ground hogs. Works better with the 62 grain bullets. I think a compensator would improve the accuracy a bit. Don't crank too many rounds in a row through it as the barrel gets mighty hot. I think the barrel is too thin. It is not a rifle for rapid fire as the accuracy drops fast. I have a red dot sight on mine and it works just peachy. IMHO

I own a 181 series mini, and although I love shooting it, you can't expect to hit very often with one from the earlier series. From what I hear, the newer series rifles are miles ahead in accuracy compared to the old ones.

How many times do you have to tell yourself that before you believe it?:D
