It seems to be on point for price. It has a 2 stage trigger, SUB MOA GARENTEE and basically is the Vanguard in a MDT LSS-XL Chassis and a what I think more comfortable stock then the RPR.

I was handling one today, wanted to get all of you opinions on it.

Seems like a decent buy, LGS has it for 1700.

Also, 223 or 6.5 Creedmoor ? Will be using it for yote hunts, paper punching every once in a while. (worried about barrel life 2000 rounds can stack up really fast... 2 years I bet I would hit that)

I have only handled it at buyers shows - we never brought any in (not our market).

But you are correct, it's just a Vanguard II on a modular stock.

The Vanguard itself is an excellent rifle. Action/barrel and trigger are made by Howa (same as the 1500's). You either love or hate the two stage trigger - I love it (own 4 VGII's).

Given your stated use I would go for the 223 - cheaper to feed and would do what you are after. But the Creed is "cool".

The price sounds quite good based on the wholesale and MSRP (about $2100 CDN).

Oh damn, I may jump on it. I love 2 stage triggers personally. I know the japs make some clean rifles.

I love the sub moa guarantee. Might have to get it. I honestly feel like this is the rifle I was looking for in the RPR. Who would have though Weathersby would deliver it ?

You got me looking into this rifle, and it's awfully interesting... I'm looking for an accurate rifle for the 100-500m range that won't cost me $3500, so I can improve my shooting technique. The Ruger Precision Rifle was one contender, the Tikka T3 CTR another, now I'm definitely adding this Vanguard to the list, thanks!

2k barrel life, really? What calibre? .308?

Ok let's have a look a break down of this.
Weatherby vanguard s2 new at cabelas $720
Mdt lss xl chassis $ 500
Buffer tube from mdt $ 40
Fixed stock adapter mdt $ 50
Louth ar buttstock $ 190
If you go with 6.5 creedmoor you want an accurate mag $ 100
Machinists to thread the barrel with brake $ 250
Total $ 1850 plus you did it your self.
Also a 6.5 creedmoor as long as it's not hot loaded 3500 rounds no problem

So save yourself 150 bucks, buy some ammo.

I like the package

No problem. I tried a RPR and was very disappointed... (I did a fairly large write up on it, a lot of small things that just added up to be to much for me and I gave it a DONT BUY review)

This is kind of what I was thinking...I just picked up a stainless on the black Monday sale for $884 taxes and freight in ($759 for the gun).
That leaves $1340 left over...
Not something I intend to do with my rifle but if I were I'd do it myself.

Most would agree that you really missed the mark on your RPR review....but it was your review and you are entitled to your opinion. :)

Absolutely, I have seen RPR's out there that didn't have any of the issues I had with mine. I think their quality control was just lacking.

From a gritty trigger, to broken butt stock, throw in a crooked handguard (pure aesthetics) and the inability to not have the accuracy expected. It was a negative for me.
Again, I See a lot better ones being pumped out now and some really enjoying them.

I have honestly been looking at the GEN2 or the "Enhanced" RPR...

A LGS has a Weatherby in stock and let me handle it. I dug it. Being honest with myself, the Modular is what I think I was looking for in a RPR.

A Guarantee of SUB MOA, much easier maintenance of rifle (was on of my complaints) a beauty match 2 stage trigger and the modern ergonomics...

So I mean, damn ive pretty much talked myself into it.
