So I've been shopping around for a 375 H&H bush gun to use exclusively with irons as I dislike taking my scope off and resighting it afterwards. I'd really like a Zastava but I can only find left hand models left in stock. So, the next option was a Weatherby Vanguard as they're the only other cheap 375 I've found. Anyways, just wondering if anyone has handled or used one and what they're thoughts are? As well, any other options or suggestions for a cheapish 375?

I would take Vanguard in 375 over a Zastava, I know the Zastava is CRF but I have owned both and nothing against Zastava I just really like the Vanguard, I rebarreled one S1 to 375 Ruger and another to 9.3x62 now I have more money into them than they are worth plus I have two rifles that can do the same job so maybe ignore my opinion I might not be too bright, neither of mine have open sights. I did own a Browning X Bolt in 375 H&H it had sights, I sold it to fund the other re-barrels, I liked everything about the X Bolt except the stock, I prefer a raised cheek piece like the Vanguards.

I had a brief stint with an older Browning bolt action in .375 H&H mag.
I didn’t care for the long length of action.
If I were going to do .375 diameter again I might consider a .375 Ruger.
It is a powerful cartridge that probably comes in some durable all weather stainless synthetic stocked models, as per your idea for a bush gun.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Nice to hear that it is a solid rifle as I'll probably have to order online so I won't be able to play with it in person.

I'm sticking with the 375 H&H as this gun will just be for irons use and my current one will wear it's scope full time rather than swapping it on and off. This is entirely a superfluous purchase as a result lol!

very good action a copy of a sako AV so nothing wrong with it. a first that someone complaining about finding lefty rifles ...coming from a lefty rifle user lol ..

I had a Vanguard DGR in .375 for awhile, finally sold it during a gunroom purge. Terrific rifle, very accurate, typical excellent S2 trigger, and the ergonomics of the Vanguard Monte Carlo stock are outstanding for me. I regretted selling it almost at once; I saw the new owner list it for sale a few months later and had to struggle mightily not to buy it back. Outstanding choice for a practical .375H&H.

Thanks for the input and I appreciate the glowing review. I'm still humming and hawing on choice and waiting to see if something interesting pops up on the EE before I go out and get a new vanguard but it's looking like I'll probably end up getting one. I've been contemplating going the M70 route, but it's double the money and this rifle isn't going to see an easy life in my hands lol!

I have a Zastava in 460 weatherby. I like it, i tried to get a Zastava in 375 h&h too but at you saw, tradeex has none in stock. I put up a wtb add and i eneded up with a winchester model 70 for the same price before tax as the Zastava. So unless you want new. Put a wtb add and see whats out there

Yup 2 in the mag, one in the chamber. Thumps hard. It weights less then 8 and a half pounds. Well fully loaded its 8.5 pounds

I went back as far as the boltstop would let me, milling out the mag opening back the same distance. Then i opened up the front about 0.080" and extended the mag both ways.

2 issues,

1- i cant load longer then 93.5mm oal and have them feed well. ( 0.040" sorter then factory OAL) im sure a little more work will get factory ammo feeding

And 2, is if i chamber a loaded round i cant eject it whilst loaded i have to slide it off the bolt face as the ejection port is too short for a loaded round. I need a little cutout on the right side for the bullet nose to pass through. I can post pics if you wish to see. It started life as a 458 winmag
