Okay here it is, I'm going to sell my Remington 700 sps in 204 and by either a Savage FCNS in 204 or a Tikka T3 in 204. Opinions on which one and why. I have a Tikka in 260 and don't mind the plastic, but have always wanted a Savage. Is the bolt smooth on the Savage like the Tikka? The Remington I have is a realy good shooter but I want a detachible mag, just in case you were wondering why I am making the switch.

The action on a savage is the reason I will never own one. An ugly cumbersome bolt that drags and scrapes. Get an sps dm if it is offered in .204 otherwise go with the tikka.
 
Gringo, you can buy a Mag conversion for short & long action remmy 700's.... I don't know if they make one that would work on a .204, or a .223 for that matter either.

I was having the same dilema about a month ago........ I looked at all the offerings (in .223 as opposed to .204) and wound up with a 700 SPS Tactical.....

I just bought a rem 700 VLS In 204. I had a savage and it was really good also, but i must say that the rem 700 is a much nicer action. I think thwe tika is a nice choice, but im a wood stock guy, so i dont bother with synthetics anymore. Tikka makes a nice gun, but the hop ups for a rem 700 are endless.

I also have a Rem 700 VLS in .204 (in addition to the CZ earlier mentioned), but rather than lug it around the bush, I've turned it into a bench gun with a custom 1-in-10 twist barrel. It likes the 50 gr Bergers. :D
 
I bought a Savage model 12 with the laminate stock and stainless action about a year ago chambered for the .204. I absolutely love it. Compare the rifles side by side. As far as the fit and finish of the firearms that I've looked at over the past year, Savage has had some of the nicest. That's my opinion take if for what it's worth.

Like i said in another post, its not light, and they make good bench rifles. But im a bigger guy and dont mind the weight of it. mine isnt to bad, but i think i need a better scope.
 
Well my qualifications were, light,detachable mag, accurate, and not break the bank. The detachable mag rules out 80% of all firearms(Remington). So yesterday I ordered a Tikka T3 in 204 from Epps for $649. Can't wait to get it.
 
let us know how it shoots, I am looking a 204 Tikka Super Varmint , oops I it should be I found one for a really good deal

Ive got the Tikka T3 Varmint and with Sierra BK's in 32 or 39 it will shoot bug holes. I had a Remington LVSF in the same cal. but required a bedding job and trigger job to shoot 1/2 moa.
My only quam with the Tikkas is that they build there mags to short, dont have much room to seat bullets out. Im also not thrilled that you can't top load the mag.
Trigger on the Tikkas are adjustable and crisp, the Tikka has a clip and they are renown accurate guns...Id say get the Tikka.

Ya you can single feed them, you just can't push them down into the mag from the open port because of the single stack mag. I have a Tikka in 260 and enjoy shooting it, alot of plastic but bang for the buck is good. Hope it's a shooter.
