I will admit I do not know much about ar-15 and i would like to get something stock that is reliable and decent quality. Having said this I am considering the windham weaponry rifle and the core 15 m4.

Any suggestions which is the better buy? Price is similar and windham provides a transferable lifetime warranty.

windham is a decent choice. the core15 SHOULD be alright the only ones i have seen are pistons

Smiths make good AR's. I believe the "sport" model is the one that doesn't have the forward assist and dust cover... They are great AR's though... ive seen one with 1000 rounds through it.. not cleaned, just oiled over and over.. and kept on ticking without fail...

NEA is a choice. It sounds like windham is a good choice. I really like that they stand by their product.

In that bracket there are a few good choices, (You're in the low $1k-$1.2K range - correct?) Take a look at Armseast, they have Stag carbines with a lifetime warranty, and all of the fun mil-spec stuff (testing/features) done to them.
