Just brought my new BPR in 30-06 home from the local dealer. I absolutely love it -- first 'brand new' gun I have owned, although it is a 4-year old leftover. Hey SuperCub, now you are no longer the only pump gun junkie on here.

Now I have to turn my attention to a new scope. Anyone have any opinions on the Burris FFII 4.5-14x42 scope. I have a line on a pretty sweet deal for one but I've never picked one up. I've handled it's little brother in 3-9x40 and thought it was very good for the money.

I look forward to all your comments.

I have oneon a range rifle that I would use if I ever hunted coyote's or pronghorn. It is a fairly big scope, I think it would be too much scope for a pump action 30-06, it is very long and fairly heavy. I would prefer the 3x9

Ok, thanx for the info. What do you mean by 'too much scope for a pump actoin 30-06? Most of my shooting is from tree stands out to about 250 yards.

He means a 3X9 is more than adequate for those ranges on big game. If you were hunting varmints then the 4.5X14 would be a better choice.

That's what i meant. I wouldn't have a scope on a general hunting rifle with an adjustable objective. I also think the scope would really look out of place on a 760, they should have asmall light scope, they are a neat fast handling rilfe the 4.5x14x42 would not help with that.

OK, makes sense. But for the record I have a new Browning BPR, not a 760.

F/S 4.5-14X32 Burris Short mag

I have a new in box Burris Short mag 4.5-14X32 that would go on that BPR.
PM me if you are interested. Tikka

I'm with martin 3 X 9 all the way or lower for a hunting gun even a real flat shooter. If you can't hit it with 9 it's time to get a little closer. Plus your gun will handle better, to big a scope and you will notice the top heaviness.

I just bought one NIB on ebay for 300 shipped (CDN) which is half of what the boys over at Wholesale Sports sell them for.

I read some reviews and guys have said they are good scopes for the money so I guess there even better at half the money. I would have preferred a 4200 but the price was too good to pass up.

I am putting the scope on a 6.5 Swede but think it might be a little much for a pump. They sell a 3 - 9 FFII at the same Ebay store for about $145 (USD) and that in itself is a pretty good deal.

There are always good deals on those Burris scopes it seems, maybe because people don't pay any attention to them with the nice affordable Elite series and those over priced Leupolds.

The light transmission on the Burris is better than the VX I, II and III and has a better sealing system from what I have heard.

I met a guy at the range who had a similar magnification in the same scope on his 300 RUM and it seemed to put up with the abuse. The scope replaced a VX-II that leaked on two different occasions (two different scopes).

To each their own but for the money, why the hell not

Thanx for all the input guys. I see on good old eBay where I can get the 3-9x40 for $200 US with a "free" Garmin e-Trex GPS thrown in. I will likely jump on that this afternoon.

They can only ship from the states until May 15, 2007. After that, well I think we are screwed.

I have a sister in the states and I just send it to her and then have her send it to me as a gift.

Dirty bastards have to ruin everything
