Opinions requested on Chinese red synthetic stocks

Hi guys!

I'm wondering what the consensus is on the Chinese red fiberglass SKS stocks.

I know they are ugly as hell, but I wonder how they hold up in the durability department?

I detest the softwood that is on my Chicom SKS’s, and would like to replace it with fiberglass.

I realize they are still quite short, but I would like to put a few on my Chinese SKS’s and try a few different camouflage patterns. I have seen people give them some pretty incredible paint jobs that make them look quite sharp.

I’ll probably buy a Choate standard rifle stock for the one I’ll shoot personally, but I would like to get some inexpensive shorter stocks for females/kids to shoot.

Chinese fibreglass stocks

Maple Leaf, eh? here,

I found the foreend tip needed to be filed back about 1/4" to get the recoil shoulder on the receiver to engage the crossbolt. The other thing that is really apparent is the moulding seams between the left and right sides. More time with the bastard file! (Only place I can say bast-age within insulting someone's sensitivities.)

Maybe my stock is an oldtimer compared to yours, but it was definately not drop-in proportions.

I agree that smaller people need smaller guns.

I haven't bought any Chicom stocks yet, but I am considering it.

I recently purchased three Chinese SKS's and want to replace their wood stocks.

I seem to recall having a Chinese fiberglass stock many years ago and throwing it away rather than using it. I think it had the same problems you encountered with yours.

I have seen how some people have painted their's and made them look really nice.

However, I am most interested in how durable they are.

I've never even seen a 'glass stock for an SKS. I'd recommend an aftermarket synthetic one instead, even though they all add at least 1" to the LOP. Butler Creek makes a nice synthetic monte carlo, the recoil pad is integral but could be removed and replaced with something thinner to return the LOP to original dimensions. Dunno if the price point is similar, 'glass might be cheaper. My BC monte carlo required no fitting though, which is another point in its favour

You could also refinish the OEM chu wood stocks. They actually don't look too bad when they've been stripped, sanded, stained and sealed Once again, it's more work.

There was also some yahoo on ebay selling wooden thumbhole stocks for SKS's, although he wants $135 US for 'em. He makes them himself, and they actually don't look too bad. If he can do it, I'm sure you could do it Bust out the router and sandpaper! LOL! Anyways, hope that helps!
