So I just came across a gun called an STI GP6-C 5" and I like what i'm reading so far. I've had most pistol designs out there but never looked at this one. It seems to be the best competitive polymer gun out there! I'm a CZ fan and use the Shadow but right now I don't own a polymer...
Anyone own or used one and input please? The price alone is fantastic.

Aside from the lame rear sight, the gun is pretty cool.

I don't dig the Eliason style rear sight, but it does work well.

The trigger is awesome. The felt recoil is minimal. Shooting the GP6 and Shadow back to back, I prefered the GP6.

The two areas that the GP6 fall behind the Shadow are the safety levers and the double action trigger.

The GP6 safeties are small and not shaped so that you can ride them like the Shadow or 1911.
The GP6 double action trigger is probably better than the Beretta and CZ-75, but pales in comparison to the SP01 Shadow.

Very happy owner of a gp6, the c is new and i hear improved version of mine... Havnt shot one yet, but would love to..
The gp6 is a awesome pistol, super sa/da trigger, easy field strip, good quality mags, fully ambidextrous mag release, slide lock and thumb safety... Small but out of the way.. Good sight aquisition and because of the rotating barrel, much smoother recoil...
I understand this pistol has done so well in europe in competition, sti felt they would add it to their line up.. Great descision, out of the box accurate, and eats anything i feed it so far.
I also believe that the c has ajustable palm swells, always a good idea to get the grip you want, although mine fits me just fine....
Ok, enough of the sales pitch, i really love mine, and i like having something a little different. ( nothing wrong with glocks or m&p )
Whatever you chose ... Enjoy!! Oh and a full range report please!!!!!!

I have 2... Main and a backup.

Pros:
* SA trigger is excellent. Best of any Production gun I've tried (I have a Shadow and a Beretta Elite II)
*DA pull is 8lbs, but stacks up nicely and there is a bit of resistance just before release. Makes trigger prep on the "press out" part of the draw VERY nice. Best draw + alpha hit today 1.17.
* Adjustable sights! I like to have the center of the fibre rod be the POI
* Ambi controls. Not much of an issue for me, but good stuff if your cursed with lefthandedness.
* Decent accuracy. Very close to my Shadow.
* easy to strip and clean. Particularly the extractor claw is easy to remove.
* Sean Hanson at Freedom Ventures. Awesome support for the platform.
* $600? For a race ready production gun? What can beat that?

Cons:
* Mags are expensive.
* Hammers break. A lot. I've broken 4 in the last year.
* QC seems variable. I've also got a GP6 and it's barrel seems to less accurate than the other two guns.
* Tigher tolerances = more frequent cleaning. I just took a 3 day Manny Bragg course... I cleaned the gun just before the 1k Day 3 program (detailed strip). By the end of the day it was gummed up pretty good. And I use Vihtavouri powder as it's supposed to be the cleanest.

I like it. YMMV.

Thanks for the input guys, maybe with my Shadow trigger mod the D/A can be taken down a bit (screw the hammer spring into a wood bench for a week to a month and it makes a very noticeable difference in trigger pull). I think the D/A is the only thing I wouldn't love about the gun from the sounds of it.

Are there any differences with the 5" performance wise?

I just got to handle one today (July 5, at the Provincials) and for a polymer it really can't be beat in action shooting.
