specifically the 4x32 scope with attached red dot, site sponsors got them on sale & caught my eye, heard good & bad, anyone with actual experince want to chime in?

I found a toilet paper roll, with black thread ,for the reticle, worked much better..:) JK
But then again, I just bought an Optisan CX6.:)

ok can anyone recommend a good scope/red dot combo for an AR?

Really? There are tons of options but none of them are cheap. A low powered variable(LPV) if say 1-4 or 1-5 or 1-6 or even 1-8 would fill both roles in only one optic. Look to spend between $800-$3000 if you want top quality stuff.

I've had a few of them, one mounted on a 308 that's fired several hundred rounds. It holds zero and is plenty clear for shooting paper out to 300 yards (the farthest I've been able to test it). I've never had any issues with their products. However, you have to keep in mind that you're buying a cheap scope. if you get a good one and it lasts, bonus. I only use them when shooting at paper. If/when it dies, I will take it off and toss it. I'd never risk a hunt or wounding an animal on a cheap scope, though. You have too much inversted and at stake in a hunt.

The thing about NCStar isn't how any individual scope works, it's that they have such poor QC that you can't be guaranteed that the scope you end up with will be any good. Some people roll the dice and get a decent scope for the price, others get a metal tube with some rattly glass that doesn't really do much besides take up space.

If i got a super deal on one i wouldn't hesitate to put one on a .22, range plinker SKS that has a rail and is going to get beat up by ejecting brass and if it craps out at the range, meh, i've got other guns to use while i am there.

What i would not put one on is a hunting rifle, anything with more recoil than a .223/7.62x39, anything i was competing with, or anything i wanted to make sure it was reliable.

FWIW though i have one of the NCStar long eye relief scopes on a mosin because it was all i could find at the time, and it's (so far) handled the recoil of about 40 rounds of 7.92x54r, but again, i assume it's a matter of when it craps out, not if. It's actually lasted longer than the mount that slipped off of the dovetail almost immediatly.

Junk for hunting. An ok toy for the range.

I wouldn't say junk for hunting. Unreliable for hunting is more accurate. So far, the 6-24 I've had on my 700 in 308 has done very well for close to 1,000 rounds - maybe more. It is more than clear enough for hunting, and is no more prone to fog than any of my good hunting scopes. the thing is, I dont trust it for hunting, or to compete with, simply because I can't rely on it, never knowing when it will give up the ghost.

NCStar aren't worth having an opinion on.

In about 45 years of buying and owning scopes, I've only had 1 crap out, a Bushnell. I've never owned any high-end scopes, but plenty of Bushenll, Weaver,Leupold,, Nikon, as well as real cheapo's, and I've never been disappointed.
