l'm considering an inexpensive rifle to add to the collection, possibly 7mm Rem.for Deer. Anyone have experience on this brand, package, good or bad.
Or other suggestions.

I know 4 guys who bought that model , 2 of them are 7mm, one a 30 06 and one is a 300 Win.I had the job of breaking in the 7mm and the 300 Win for two of my friends who are rig workers who couldn't get the time to do it. I shot a 5/8 group at 100 yds with 180 gr Win supreme ammo in the 300 Win and with handloads in the 7mm I got it to shoot a 1 in group. I would not hesitate to buy one of these firearms for myself if I needed one. Definitely something to take a look at.

I own two. in 270 and 7RM. Love them both. I put the 270 in a lam stock and bedded the action etc. Both shoots under 1/2 MOA at 180yds. Shot both to 940yds with excellent accuracy.

They are a great buy and the barrels can shoot. If you use the orig stock, I do suggest you have it bedded. Makes a huge improvement. Also, tuning or swapping the trigger is a worthwhile change.

Other then that, work up good ammo and enjoy...

I have a friend who has one in .270Winchester and he likes it very much. I haven't fired it but did examine and handle it and I liked it so far as that goes. They are made with the Accu-Trigger now so be sure you know whether you are getting old production or new and that the price reflects that.

I am going to buy one as soon as my PAL gets in. It's a little nicer than the Stevens 200, and even comes with a strap and a cheapo scope that actually seems half decent.

I have the 30.06 version ; it came with a Simmons scope. I love it! I have it zeroed in at 100 yards with Federal 150 grain. It keeps zero very well after tracking through the bush and being handled in less than gentle ways.

Since I zeroed it, I rechecked it three times and I shot groups of five, all within 3 in. Didn't have to readjust zero at all. I did buy better scope rings as soon as I bought the rifle tough.

Some don't like the polymer stock but to me that is one of the "upsides". It will take all kinds of weather and dirt without too much damage and without warping(which could alter your zero at extreme temperatures).

I threw an ultra light Harris bipod on there for prone and sitting shots and you can hardly feel the difference in weight.

I am not a gun snob so I am pretty happy with what this rifle can do for me. I doubt that there is any game in Canada that would survive an encounter with a well placed shot from my Savage 30.06.

To answer your question directly, it is a an above average rifle, for a very decent price IMO.

I do not own one, but I did check one out for one of my buddies. I really liked the rifle but for one thing: the square hedges of the fore stock. Maybe they changed the designe since. If so, I would take one in 7 mm Rem mag. :)
