Thinking about what scope to mount on a new Savage bolt action in 17HMR but would entertain all recommendations about what glass to top it with.Understand there are now scopes out there that are calibrated for 17HMR tragectories which is what sounds like just the ticket.
Any thoughts from the gallery?????????

I went with the bushnell super 17.
Variable 3X9 power, I want to say 40mm objective {scope is'nt in front of me and have'nt shot it in a while}.Adjustable objective for longer shooting and bullet drop compensator.I think I payed about $170 here at the powderkeg.RB

I just dug out my 17HMR and low and behold my super 17 is a 3.5X10X36 as well.I guess I should shoot it more often so I can remember what scope I use.RB

I think any scope in mid to high magnification and adjustable parallax would do fine. Also consider the BSA Sweet 17 as these are calibrated on the target knob for bullet drop for the 17 HMR, 2-7X32 $95 and 3-12X40 $155. I run a Leupold VX-II, 6-18x40 AO, $619 on my HB Marlin and find this to be a good mix from off hand shooting at 6X to bench and bipod at 18X. I think your budjet would determine what one works for you. Phil.

I've got a new Savage in .17hmr as well, I've been shooting with it twice with a lower power bushnell and have already decided that I'd like more magnification. At least something that goes to 18 power. What do people think of the tasco varmint/tactical? I know people aren't fond of Tasco these days, but it's just a rimfire, no need to worry about recoil damage.

Thanks to all who responded as I'm leaning toward the Bushnell Super 17 also as I think a 10 power on the high end will probably suffice considering the very low recoil and effective range of the 17HMR to be all of 300 yards but not much more.
many thanks Bros'

.17 HMR Scope

I run a VX II 3-9 EFR on my .17HMR and love the clarity and also the ability to adjust the parallax down to 10m or up to Infinity. They run around $500.00 but I have seen a few on the exchange forum for less.

I used to run a Tasco 4-16 on my Savage BV. It was ok but found that when I played with the magnification I had to aim low on all my shots and that I was missing easy 50-100m shots with it. I put on my Bushnell 3200 5-15 on it and havnt looked back. I bought it from P&D in 2004 for just over 400$ shipped and it has turned out to be an excellent scope and a wicked deal. I can use what ever magnification I want with no change in point of aim and the optics are really clear.

I have the Bushnell Super 17 3.5-10X36mm scope too. Great scope for the price, but if I was to do it again I'd go for a higher power scope. 6-18 would suit my needs nicely for shooting small critters out past 100 yards. I don't use the BDC really and a 6-18 bushy banner is only 50$ more then the 3.5-1power
