Hi everyone,

I, just like many I'm sure, just purchased my first A/R and wanted some suggestions for an optics for it. I was hoping for something with magnification and was told by many that you guys are the best ones to ask for advice. I have only owned firearms for about 5 months now so still really new. Any good suggestions? Price wise if it was under $1000 that would be ideal.
Thanks

Vortex red dot is good too. $200 I have a couple of them and no complaints. But not so ideal for reaching out if that's what you intend to do.

Tell us what you intend to do with your AR. If you are going to bench it at 100 yards and greater - then a higher powered scope 12x plus. This isn't the usual use for an AR. In my view, you only see the attraction of ARs in run-and-gun scenarios. In these situations, a red-dot, holo-sight or low-power variable scope (with a 1X setting) are best. The last is only needed for smaller targets (e.g. IPSC mini target or less) at 100 meters plus. Red dots or holo sights are faster than a variable power scope.

I would suggest a low to medium powered variable scope.
It doesn't have to be gollygeewhiztackiekewl.
I had a Bushnell 1 1/2 - 4 Trophy on one for a while, and shot it a lot. Worked just fine.

CF members shoot really well with a fixed 3.4X scope. A plain jane low powered hunting scope would be modestly priced, and would do the job.

I use Nikon's M223 line of scopes on my AR's. Work well. Used to have an old Tasco 2-7x32 World Class Pronghorn scope on a Colt SP1 that worked as well. Used to use it to hunt groundhogs pre C-68 of course.

For primary arms, you may want to consider the griffen reticle in 1-6 https://ctcsupplies.ca/primary-arms-1-6x24mm-sfp-rifle-scope-gen-iii-illuminated-acss-griffin/ given the close mid range you are looking for. I prefer it's openness to the ACSS

Go for the burris rt-6 and let me know how it is :).. I'm also shopping for an optic for an AR and getting close to pulling the trigger on this one!

Do it, you won't regret it. Head and tails above Vortex Strike Eagle equivalent for reference.

For a red dot I would go with Holosun, lots of Aimpoint like features at a fraction of the cost. If you wanna put a 3x magnifier behind it down the road I have been using the Primary Arms 3x and it is awesome. Primary Arms is fantastic for the cost of a low power variable optic. Just my mileage...

A red dot isn't a good choice for 100-200m. A magnifier would be an improvement. But it is a solution to a problem that need not exist.
If a red dot is desired, get a scope with an illuminated reticle. A low powered variable with an illuminated reticle will handle anything from point blank to hundreds of m.
