I am looking to put an optic on my henry and would like to hear your suggestion. I am looking for a red dot sight for QTA since I use it for plinking exclusively, and have a budget of $150.

Unless you buy one of the many rimfire scopes that come with the dovetail mount you'll need to find a dovetail to picatinny adapter. But those are pretty common.

From there you have the option of scopes or red dots of all manner and price. It's only a .22 so the AWESOME recoil isn't going to bother even the cheapest red dot or scope unless the thing is already falling apart. This means you could even buy a cheap no name red dot out of Asia from Ebay. Back when I was participating in paintball I got a couple of these $25 no name units. They worked just fine for paintball of course. Then I mounted one on my Encore chambered in .500S&W and it was on there for around 40 shots before I tried a scope. It survived all that and is still fine. And it had zero issues with adjusting with no dead band when reversing direction. I've used it sporadically on some .22's since and it worked like it should. So the cheap imports aren't always pure junk.

On the other hand I bought a Bushnell Fast Fire that cost what you're considering spending and I had to open it up, clean out the oil and put some blue locking compound on the adjuster screws. The darn thing was wandering badly and loosing zero within a few shots from the big kicks of the Ruger 10/22 it was on. So paying more doesn't always buy reliability and trouble free operation.

You don't need an adapter... it is a standard 3/8" rimfire dovetail... a nice little Leupold 2-7 would be my choice... a red dot will not give you the precision that the gun is capable of.

If your Henry's just for plinking why not just upgrade to Skinner's sights. Chk out their website…..besides optics on lever-guns look weird IMO and adds unnecessary weight.

Haven't seen too many red dots that mount with that. But.....??

And yes, a red dot won't give the precision that rifle is capable of.

This is from the second 10 round session after I sighted in my Leupold. And, it will get better. Red dot won't do this kind of accuracy...

But....it's out of your price range.

What group size is that? I had a red dot on my .22mag that looked like it did better groups than that.

I went with a peep though set of mounts and an inexpensive Bushnell scope.. now I can use the existing iron sights for close up and scope for distance without removing the scope.

Good choice! Are you getting the rear peep mounted on the barrel or receiver? Could make a difference on the height of the front post you need to get.

I'm getting it mounted on the receiver.

Wise option. Peep sights work best when they are back near the eye. The closer to the eye the better.

I do believe that this means you'll need a taller front sight as well. What are you going to do for that? You don't mention which model rifle you've got.
