SO I took it to the range today.... and ran into a few issues. One of which being despite the optics offset to the left, there appears to be some impact marks on the scope. Indicating that somehow the empty casings are flipping around and occasionally striking the scope. SO to solve this I'll have to install the shell deflector I bought. The second issue is; with the absence of the safety, the spring plate that also holds the trigger group pins in place managed to move out of place while firing. Its appearent that the safety is what hold that plate down, something i over looked. BUT I have a very simple solution to that aswell; I'll bolt it down using one of the mounts bolts.

Unfortunetly by the time these problems started to occur, I had only sighted the optic in and shot one 5 rnd group at 100m's....

Using LCW 7.62x39 HP's, the gun patterned around 5" !! not impressive at all. HOWEVER, this is only ONE group, and it was shot while the above problems were occurring which may have played a factor. There is a chance that the firearm doesnt like this Ukrainian ammo, much like my SKS HATES Winchester ammo!

Interestingly though. .... I did use 3 shot groups to sight in the optic, and all of those were under 2 MOA, one of which was even SUB MOA ! SO i honestly wont settle on a particular opinion regarding the rifles accuracy YET, until I get these issues sorted out and try some more ammo.

I will finish the how to video sometime after Saturday hopefully !

Good progress Murray!

I've managed to avoid shell deflection hits on my optics so far (I think) by having my rail mounted higher than yours. Totally blocking the safety was avoided this way, except for maybe from the optic itself (i.e. depending if the AK mount or Draganov/universal mount was used as part of the optic assembly).

I had my safety lever moved to the other (right) side (like on the 858 series). If I would have known about Claven 2's info on making the T81 safety into a 90 degree one sooner, I would have left it on the left side and extended the lever by about an inch--AND I'm sure it would clear the underside of a mounted optic-Oh well, next time! :)

I like your idea of the spacer plate, but wonder if aluminum is strong enough to hold a thread (?) for the bolts (?). Maybe mild steel would be better for a future attempt?
Anyways, my rail is of mild steel and was threaded (and thick enough) from the factory that way.

I did get out to try it a couple weeks ago (I'm sorry to steal your thunder in this regard) :(
and results were consistant.

Here we are with a PK-A (red dot) optic

Here is a view of the securing screws--I avoided the whole trigger group problem by going above the trigger assembly altogether--the screws clear the bolt/carrier assembly easily.

How much weight do these monstrosities add to the rifle?

I estimate the weight of the PK-A to be about .8 of a pound (as per wifey's food scale). It's much smaller than the OP's unit.

There is also a weaver mount that fits directly over the bore--I will post pics in the (other) modification thread--so as to stop hijacking Murray3D's "proof of concept" work in this thread.

So you removed the safety? And does your range let you run your gun with no safety if so? I put the front rail on mine and will be using a scout scope.

yes the safety has been removed, until I can machine a right side safety. AS for range rules... I wouldnt know. Safety's are kindof pointless anyways if you go by the " treat every gun as if it were loaded " rule.
