I have read that the front sight/gas block on the Norc is really hard to remove. I would like to mount an optic and am not interested in the carry handle mounts, so is it favorable to cut the front sight off? Do you do this with it installed? I dont have any of the bench blocks or anything and am not really set up to drive out the pins, so I would be curious to hear what you guys recommend. Thanks for your input, and Merry Christmas!

I just mounted a Strikefire RDS with a magpul BUIS. Works fine and is co-witnessed.

I am thinking of getting a Millett 1-4x. I was considering a red dot, just having a hard time deciding. Does the visibility of the front sight in your scope throw you off any? I haven't spent any time shooting with that type of set up, I am just trying to round up ideas. This rifle will be used for IPSC and tactical matches, 200m will likely be the furthest I would be shooting it.

i cut the gas block down on mine while still on the gun,it was easy, handguards off, duct tape to cover the handguard front cup washer ,mark out the cut,15 mins with dremel and file, paint, job done, install any optic/ handguard you want!

I am going to pick up a set of extra high rings and try a 1.5-4.5 that I have right now. If it doesn't interfere, I'll leave the sight alone just in case I do want to switch back to irons. Thanks for the tips and link I look forward to trying this out! If I go with a mount, do you guys recommend the Burris mount or something similar?

Once you turn the magnification up past 3 the sight tower optically disappears, below that you can see it but it's no big deal. Once you cut it you can't put it back.

To be serious I agree. The fsb is meant to be there. Been there for about 50 years now. No magnification will cowitness. With magnification it wont be seen. I wouldnt cut it off

I use a Russian Rs-34 holo sight. Basically the Kobra little brother.

It gives me lower third co-witness, leaving the sight picture unclutered when using the optic, and irons sights useable just beneath. I prefer the T reticle, and can be switched to dot (3moa), T, T with dot, cross, or dot and cross without changing POI or zero.
