I have been looking at Nikon's Prostaff Target 3x9x40 EFR for my CZ 455 American. Use would be occasional squirrel and rabbit hunting as well as some light range work (max 50m). Thought it might be a good fit and within budget.
Opinions/recommendations welcome.:)
 
I put a 4-16x42 Bushnell Elite on my 455 varmint. I'm just going to go to the range and try it out for the first time. I'll zero at 50m and work up from there. If it's not too windy today, I'll even try out to 200m.

But 9X would do you fine for 50m and even 100m.
 
You should look at more power if you want to shoot for small groups. If you are planning to do mostly off hand target practice, 3-9 will be just fine.
I used to have a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9 x 40 BDC 150 mounted on a CZ455. Not exactly the same scope that you are interested in but very close.
I liked:
- can't beat the optics for the price; very nice!
- feels rugged
- crisp adjustments

I didn't like:
- the eye piece has a fairly large diameter so in order to clear the CZ bolt, you have to mount the scope little higher (with this scope you are constraint by the eye piece dia, not by the objective dia)
- 1/4 in adjustment @ 50 yd (that's 1/2 MOA!). O.K. for plinking/offhand target/hunting.
- the BDC reticle is too thick for target work (but the EFR should have a different reticle...)
 
I use a Vortex Cross ii 6x18x44 with parallax for 50 yards….. I would not go for less then 18x for target….
 
WSS has 30% off a lot of scopes now. Bought a Bushy Elite 4-16 x40 multi x last year for my Lux, may just get another at the lower price, but with the bdc reticle. Great scope.

I have the Nikon Target EFR on my Savage and love it. My Savage is a bench rest/target gun, and I like the adjustable objective for this reason. I can dial in my range and get crystal clear focus. However, I had to use high rings and a raised cheek piece on my stock because of the 40mm objective (closer to 45mm, because of the grip on the outer ring). It works, but I'd prefer to mount it lower if I could.

For hunting, and general carry use in the bush, go for something lighter like the Nikon P-Rimfire (aka: P-22) without A/O. Not only is it lighter, but the parallax is fixed at 50 yards so you don't have to mess with it if you need to get a quick shot off at small game. Also, the smaller 32mm objective will allow you to use lower rings to mount it, which is desirable for good cheek weld.
