Gun: Free float 16" quality barreled 556 AR15, only ever factory (bulk) ammo.
Distance: 50 to 110 yards - I have not needed to shoot beyond this in the past five years
Use: Range gun 99% of the time, but needs to be time-is-life reliable, or I'll just stick with irons.
Budget: $350 +/- a bit for taxes, sales etc.
Go: Rugged is good. My eyesight is poor for my age, so I figure more magnification is better.
No Go: No batteries or red dots

Thanks in advance!

I too had the same decision to make. I have 2 uppers, 1 in 5.56 and another in 300 blackout, with one lower. I put a 3-9x50 on Redfield Revelution on the 5.56 upper that I picked up for only $200 used off EE. It's more of a hunting scope, but, I had it and it's for range use only. I have the magnification and reliablity without batteries, that like you, I wanted. I'll see how this works and if good may look for another Redfield for the 300 blackout upper, it's a very good scope for the money without being real heavy. Cheers and good luck with your search.

PS at 12.6 oz the Redfield was also lighter then most other scopes (Vortex Crossfire II 1-4 is 14.8 oz and the Burris Droptine 3-9x50 is 17.0 oz in comparison)

You might be able to find a crossfire 1-4 for $350. MSRP is just over $400

Vortex spitfire 3x?

Doesn't meet the OP's criteria.

I have a 1-6 Bushnell Elite Tactical with the BTR-1 Reticle on the EE, perfect for an AR type rifle, a little more than $350, but I'll look at trades on it.

If he had 2, 1-4 scopes, both with etched reticle, and one being illuminated.
Wouldn't that be the same idea, when the illumination is turned off?
Trying to learn something here:)
