Hey everyone,

Yes this is another one of those threads, the only difference is that I have some specific requirements that will hopefully make things easier for those suggesting .

I'm looking for a scope with a 30mm tube, 50mm or larger objective and with a minimum of x16 magnification for the new rifle Ive just finished bedding. I'm looking to spend between $500-600 which I know is low for what I'm asking for. The scope will be used exclusively for target shooting. I have a loaner scope on the rifle right now and am in no rush to buy anything if it means it will save me some money. With how active the optic EE is I'm happy to check it daily until what I'm looking for pops up.

I've done some research already and the Vortex Viper 6.5-20 seems to fit my needs but with how many are currently on the EE it makes me question if there's a reason they're for sale. Thanks in advance!

What kind of target shooting are you planning on doing? Paper or steel? And at what distance will you be shooting at most regularly?

At $5-600 it's tough to recommend a whole lot other than just a standard hunting scope. It is tough to get into a scope with exposed turrets for that cost.

There's no concern buying a used Vortex... lifetime warranty carries over to the new owner. Lots of people buy scopes and then sell them just to try new things. I've personally never used the Viper scope you mentioned but I am kind of a Vortex fanboy.

In that range of budget you are really limited. Upping you budget to $800-$1200 would get you a decent optic in the new or used.

You have to think, if there is so many on th EE there is a reason. Yes some guys buy and sell just to try, but normally if it was a great scope to start with they would keep it.

Look for one of the old steel tube Weaver T series scopes. These were made in 6, 10, 16, 20 and 25 power. Adjustment system is dependable. Adjustable parallax. 1" tubes, but with Burris Signature rings, this isn't an issue. I have used T16s on .308 and .223 rifles to 900m. These generally sell in the $300 range.
The newer Weaver KT-15 is also worth considering.
The Bushnell 10 power with large knobs is well thought of, and is under your price range.
A Leupold 12X varmint scope with target turrets and AO would be worth considering.
I would be more inclined to get an older quality scope than a brand new mid-price range new one.

$500 gets you a half descent 3-9 hunting scope. $800 gets you a half descent 3-12 hunting scope.
Any thing 20 and over , it's going to cost you $1300+.
I've been there , veracity 3-16 $800,Sightron S-Tac 3-16 $700, bushnell 6500 3-16 $800 , all half descent but not the best glass for target shooting.
Your better off buying a low powered , excellent glass optic, than wasting money on a high mag , poor glass clarity , optic.

Or even better, save more cash and buy a better optic .:) There's a sightron S 3,6-24 for $850 cash , on the EE.
Same add also has. Vortex viper 6.5- 20for a couple hundred less.. Good prices.
