Optic Suggestions for WK180C range shooting 100yds

I love my vortex optics, I have 2 vipers. But the strike Eagle glass was not that great. Not to mention the optics mentioned are HEAVY. I think for the money you can get something lighter, and made in Japan. Not hating on vortex at all I’ve owned/own a bunch.

Had a vortex spark AR on my bushmaster, great piece.

I have a bushnell AR 1-6 on my 308 now and love it. Initially wanted to go with a strike eagle but I much prefer the bushnell reticle and the throw lever is a nice plus. It's on the heavy side tho.

Good idea. But I seriously doubt I need 6x on the long end for 100-200m range shooting? Wouldn't a 1x-4x be more than enough?

Better to have it and to not need it then the other way around. Ud be surprised how handy 6x can be at those distances. A lot of it depends on ur target size. Literally the only 3 pros a red dot offers over variables is: Compactness, Low weight and potentially lower cost. A variable takes the cake everywhere else and offers pretty much everything u could want:

1x ? U got it
8x ? U got it
Bullet drop compensator ? U got it
Illuminated reticle? U got it
Variable brightness levels? U got it
Battery dead ? No worries u still have a reticle!

Imo most variables and etched reticle optics actually offer BETTER FOV then many red dots. Due to lens physics.

As others have said, you literally cannot go wrong with a Vortex Strike Eagle. It sounds to my like you'd be happy with either a 1-6 or the 1-8. I'd pay the extra little bit for the 1-8 for the better reticle and extra reach.

I run a Strike Eagle 1-8 on my WS MCR (same gun as the WK for all intents and purposes) and I couldn't be happier. It sounds like you're well within budget for a Strike Eagle and have lots on money left for ammo to make use of the gun and optic. I use it at 1x for CQB drills at the range and whatever I feel like at the 50m, 100m and 200m range.

I run a XPS2-0 Eotech on my SBR AR for CQB and a PK-06 on my SBR VZ for the same and honestly, the Eotech is perfect for CQB and action stuff but I prefer the Strike Eagle for literally everything else and it's still perfectly great for CQB. The more I use it, the more I realize that I'm just as quick to acquire and engage as I am with the Eotech.

If you want to decide between LPVO or fixed 1x, then maybe try something super affordable that's still a decent piece of equipment to keep on hand for fun or for your next gun, check out the 250-dollar Barska 1-4 LPVO.

I don't really do the buy once, cry once thing myself. I do the whole buy everything and then sell it when I want to try something else and lose so much money you want to die route, so, the moral is–don't be like me.

I’m running a WS-MCR with a Vortex SPARC 2 on it (2moa red dot) and honestly I’m looking at switching over to something in the 1-6 range. The spark was great on my AR for CQB but the MCR and it’s longer barrel has more of a DMR (although less accurate) feel to it. So I’m going to grab some better optics and try that out. I was shooting groups at 50m in a lower light forest environment the other day and realized I couldn’t see my 1”x1” patch target very well at all.
