Hey Guys, I am looking for thoughts on a scope that can reach out to 6 or 700M. Currently i am shooting a heavy Barrel .308 Tikka with a bushnell legend. I would like to have target turrets and stay with the Mil-dot reticle. i was thinking of the Bushnell 3200 Tactical 5-15AO it seems like a great deal, does anyone think the 4200 4-24 would be of a huge benefit? any other suggestions? i await your advice :)

Id like a Mil-dot reticle for range estimation, mainly, its jsut something i've always used. i also like to for knowing holdover/under when there isn't time to adjust for your shot.

I have the 4200 30mm tube 6-24x scope. Not really convinced its of benefit over the 5-15x40AO. I'd say the 5-15 is actually sharper and easier on the eyes and if I had to do it again, I'd only get the 5-15. There is a 4-24x I believe in the 6200 series. Can't comment on it.

I have had both. Still have 2 of the 5-15's. I prefer the 4200 6-24 for use and the extra magnification will help at that distance. They are both great scopes. If you are willing to spend the money get the 4200. If you are strapped for cash then get the 3200. You will not be disappointed with either one. These have also been mounted on my 308 tikka and one is on my 223 tikka.

Could you possibly elaborate, Im not sure if this is a preference thing or not, but ive been researching and i seem to run into two opinions a fixed 10x and some guys who say get as much magnification as you can. would you even see a target out to 600-700m with a 10x? id rather not waste money on overkill magnification if it's not necessary/useful to making the shot.

I have shot a fixed 10 back to 900m. With the right target, it can hold its own. If the mirage is running, higher power only magnifies the blurring - no help at all.
A variable gives options. But there cannot be any significant shift in point of impact as the power is changed. You may use the higher powers less than you might think. Adjustable parallax is a good thing. Side knob is more convenient than an objective collar. Personally, I have no use for MilDots for either attempting to range, or as multiple optional aiming marks. If I want to hold off, with a single dot or crosshair, I can see exactly what the allowance is.
Repeatibility of adjustments is critical. The adjustments must be dependle and repeatable, the scope is useless otherwise.

A few quick questions...

- What kind of target will you be shooting at?
- In what kind of environment will you be using it?

Personnally, I like fix power better... for the same $ you'll most likely get better quality... and the less moving parts, the less chances something will break.

Depending how much $$ you are willing to trow at this project, the MK4 10x40 is a nice piece of glass

For a whole lot less $, the Bushnell 3200 10x40 is getting some pretty good review.

For 'playing' out to 500M, I've been happy with a 6x. It's got a wider field of view, and if I'm using a less then perfect 'improvised' shooting position I don't get motion sickness from the cross-air bouncing around .
