I have an older mini14 that I wanted to hang optics on.....I have the "B square " mount which is nice and solid...but I need advice on what to put up top.......I need something with decent eye relief. ...or I end up hunkered over the receiver

Any advice?

Thanks

I have a Nikon P223 3X32 on my AR and a Nikon P223 3-9x40 on my Mini 14 Target. Out to 300 the 3-9 has been good.

Oh, crap...not those same tired old lines again??? Please, guys, just for once, just for a change of pace, why don't you try out a newer Mini before condemning them all for being inaccurate? I have the Target model, which provides just over MOA performance with standard factory ammo, and can beat the MOA barrier easily with handloads. I've also had a chance to shoot a few newer specimens of the standard model, and they shoot so well that I almost wish that I hadn't bothered with the much-heavier Target model.

OP, if you have the older model, you should consider one or both of the following ideas: First, a barrel-strut that stabilizes and stiffens the barrel usually results in greatly increased accuracy on those old guns. Second, consider the option of getting a scout-style mount that replaces the handguard (something like the Ultimak or Amega). If you like the scout scope concept, using one of those mounts usually increases accuracy over using a standard scope in the conventional position; I'm assuming that the forward mount, which bolts to the barrel, functions to stiffen it much like the struts mentioned above. Make no mistake; a Mini scout rifle with a 2.5x or 4x scope, or a 2-7x variable (optimum!) makes for a very handy, very deadly coyote rifle. If you don't like the results, you should have no difficulty selling the gun on the EE; despite the constant belly-aching and complaining about Mini's, they seem to sell quite quickly when they appear on the EE for reasonable prices. I guess somebody likes'em. :)

^^^^^^ this is it in a nutshell.
I got the target a few months ago and love it,already taken a coyote with it. But its a heavy beast, so the wife bought me a Ranch last month. It groups about 2 inches at 100 with Norc ammo. I can guarantee that it will outlast the plastic craptastics like an SU16 and has proven its longevity for 40 yrs.

I enjoy my target model laminate stock. Got a Redfield 4-12 on it and everything is staying solid and zeroed. Just about to start reloading for it. I did however put in the smaller bushing. Only because it's fired around the bench and truck. If it was the ranch rifle, let the brass fly!
