Hey guys I have an AR 308 in need of optics. I have been looking at USOptics gear, I really like the idea of building a custom scope with all the options I want.
My question is should I look at the 1.8x10 or the straight 10 with a Red Dot along for the ride.
I really hate buying things twice so I am hoping someone can give me some good advise.
My operation range for my setup would be 100 meters and out to about 800 meters.

I open it up for thoughts and opinions, thanks.

March 1-8x24. Ffp, Will run you $2600 or so. USO also a good choice. Best bang for the buck is nf 2.5-10x32

Yeah that is what I was looking at price wise as well. The Nightforce option is pretty compelling given the price and quality, I am a fan of the ffp scopes, if the NF had that I think I would just buy it and be done.

I have the Trijicon 5-20 on my DPMS LRT-SASS in .308. I have a NF 2.5-10 x 32 on my 18" AR15. I wouldn't discount the NF if you're looking in that up to 10x range. No complaints with the Trijicon either.

Thanks for sharing guys, yes the Nightforce is something I am also looking at. Just far to many good options that cost way to much to try them all. I might have to go find a NF 2.5-10 and see what I think.

Shooting from 100 to 800 meters - but what kind of shooting? Service type shooting, precision, competition or just training?
All of it has a rather large impact on what I'd pick and put on a rifle.

Here's my 2 cents.

If you're going to be shooting your rifle off hand a lot then go for the lighter 2.5-10. The new Vortex PST FFP is coming out soon and would be great for someone shooting a 3-gun style course. If you plan on laying prone while shooting different distances and especially the long stuff then going with more magnification will probably suit you better.

This is what my rifle is wearing for now:

Thanks for the link I will take a look, I thought I had found most relevant information.
The hard part for me is I can spent up to $3000 for a scope if I want it just means I can't have other things but if a US Optic is that much better than say a NF 2.5-10 or a Vortex PST then I am willing so spend it but one of those options is just as good optically or so much drastically less with little difference then I would rather do that and buy some other goodies and ammo.

If you are doing a significant amount of your shooting prone with a bipod, there is a good case for a scope like the NSX 3.5x15, but know that a scope like that is big, bulky and heavy. If you are doing any positional shooting (and you should be) that makes an AR10 an unwieldy pig.
If you do all of your shooting prone then there could be a case for even more magnification, but honestly you will likely dial it down due to mirage, movers and time constraints - the 3.5x15 is an excellent choice for that.
The NXS 2.5x10 (or a mkIV leopold of similar power) is a decent scope for the price and is decently compact. It is sufficient for 800m, and does shine at 600 and closer.
It still is one of the best values in optical choices, and significantly less expensive than some of the new 1 x whatevers.
If it was my money I'd get a decent mid range scope and spend more on developing handloaded precision .308.

IMHO, USOs are definitely better optics than Vortex PST, which are mid-level scopes; same with Sightron scopes. Good solid glass, but not in the same class. You can't say the same when you compare USOs and NFs as they are both high quality glass and both solid value for what you're paying for.

For $3,000 you should definitely consider Premier and S&B if you want more magnification; though they may have to be second hand - which unless they've been dropped out of choppers, rolled over by an armored vehicle, you're good to go!

The one thing to remember - and it's been pointed out here - these higher end scope are heavy, but for shooting prone, it's not a deal breaker.
