I'm thinking about buying the meuller eraticator 8.5-25x50mm for my 10/22 bench gun (rimfire). I've done everything else that should/could be done and I am now ready to upgrade the optics.

here are the specs/info for those of you who don't know what scope i'm referring to: http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=3602

My question goes out to all you bench shooters out there... what scope do you have on your rig? are you satisfied with your scope? how much $$$ did you pay? ... please post pics if possible.

* i posted similar thread in rimefire section, but wasn't getting any feedback, hopefully you precission shooters will help

I believe most bench shooters stick with fixed power scopes. These usually range from 36x-45x. This is mainly for off of the bench. If you want bench and to use for varmint then a good quality variable scope will have to do the job. I know little about the Mueller scopes but personally I would go with a Weaver. There are many BR shooters who use them and are very happy with there performance. A 36x runs about 4-500.00 less than a Leupold. Another scope that may be worth checking into are the Optisan scopes that Rick @ Alberta Tactical carries. I personally am not familiar with them but there are a few on the board who use them and are quite happy from what I gather.

Another sight to check out is benchrest.com in the rimfire forum. These guys in my mind are the best that can be found out there. They are the die hards of Rimfire BR shooting.

Good Luck

Jon at opticzone is a straight shooter so ask him directly. It is very hard to recommend 'cheap' optics when someone wants to compete. Everyone wants the very best.

Personally, I use the elite 4200 6X24 for my LR shooting and would not hesitate to use it for BR in any class. Some are using the 8X32 for higher mag. These two are probably the least expensive scopes you can easily get in Canada that WILL WORK.

There are others here who have had great luck with Weaver and Leupold. I know that some Luppies will wander their zero so have that checked. Boils down to how serious you are and what your expectations are.

visit benchrestcentral.com and you will find lots more info from those who compete. Also, do a search for BR50. That should lead you to rimfire shooters.

Surprised, you went with the 10/22. They tend not to be accurate enough to compete. Good luck and have fun.

If you can handle a fixed power Weaver, I would recommend going to a 24 or 36x. Best value out there. I've got a few Weaver T24x scopes in stock, but am out of 36x scopes. If your interested in the 24x send me a pm and we'll see if you can cut you a deal in the holiday spirit.

Given its a .22 rimfire, impact shift isn't too likely.

If you can find an older 36x B&L 4200/4000/earlier one they work nicely as well.
