I am looking for some ideas for optics on my new stag AR. IT has a 16In barrel and I am thinking I would like to have something up to a 4x or 6x power but I would like it to remain fairly small and tacticool looking. Any Ideas would be appreciated. thanks guys

It all depends on what type of shooting your going to do and how deep is your pockets. Acog is nice T31F or Aimpoint, Eotech and if you really need to you can always put a magnifier.

Aimpoint makes an ML2 2 magnification scope that I've been using on my M305, I quite like it and will be changing it over to my 6920 once hunting season is over.

I got the Aimpoint CompM4 for $780 + tax + shipping. If I want magnification I'll need to get an Aimpoint 3x Magnifier and twist mount for another $750++.

My conclusion is that, unless you're in the military and going to war, don't get one of the non-magnifying scopes. Get a 1-5x scope that will allow you to shoot to 300 meters in the range. For example the Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20.

The Aimpoints and EOTech's are meant for close quarter battle, an activity that is infrequent in Canada.

KevinB put a sticky in the optics section with some interesting info. I'm in the same boat, I can't decide on a couple things regarding my AR setup. I've got time to decide though. (at least till 2012 :D ;) ) (I'm kidding about the 2012 thing...)

Well, Tac Rifle matches and IPSC Carbine out here are from 5m to 150m where these sights are perfectly suited.

Depends what you're up to I guess.

I use an Eotech for 'action rifle', love it, and a 2.5-10 for service rifle matches out to 600m.

My EOTech shoots out to 200m very nicely. Must be something wrong with it.

For 4x, ACOG TA31F. Got one in 2005 and still loving it. Some SWAT guys came to my home range and asked to look into it. They were impressed by the clarity of the optics.
