Are there any snags with purchasing a rifle scope from Europe?

All of my searches all link back to firearms and firearms parts from the US, but nothing specifically related to scopes nor any mention of a purchase from a European nation.

Appreciate the responses but still looking for an answer to the initial question as I am not asking specifically about one particular vendor. Are there any import laws relating to purchasing a scope from anywhere within the European Union?

Depends what you want to purchase and where you are purchasing from.

Some brands they do not allow the shops in Europe selling to North America customers. And some like Germany would require export permit.

The UK have something similar to the US ITAR
- Optic over 10x are subject to export controls

thats odd as i inquired about a 3-12x56 scope from a vendor in the uk and no mention
of any export restrictions.they knew i was in canada.

but found what you have stated
International Non UK Export Shipping – If outside UK please read

There are special UK export rules for sales of telescopic scopes of 10x or more maximum magnification; for ANY type Bipod and all Silencers, Suppressors and Moderators.

This means only scopes of 4x maximum magnification may be shipped.

We will have to refuse, cancel or refund any orders received from Russia until these sanctions are lifted.

I was looking at a couple optics listed in Austria and another in Germany. Anything to be aware of from either of these two countries?

I would say finding a good online shop unless you know someone over there. Only Germany has the restriction the retailer needs to get the export permit, normally around 4 weeks and it's free.

I’ve ordered from optics trade eu, easy to deal with. I bought a MAKnetic quick detach aimpoint mount for my 9.3x74. They’re a great place to buy European stuff that isn’t available here.
