Hi all, I got one of those DD's that went on sale last summer. It is my first AR platform. That being said, I would like to upgrade from the sights that are on it. A scope, a red dot... I dont know... Help me out.... What (and where can I find it) is a good quality set up? Thanks

I picked up a complete DD M4V5 5.56mm on sale last summer and put an Aimpoint P.R.O red dot on it. Will do most of my shooting with it at 100 metres and less. Then I picked up a DD M4V3 upper (chambered in 6.8mm SPC II) on sale a couple of months ago. For a little longer range shooting, so picked up a Vortex 2-8 X 32mm scope. Happy with both.

QUOTE=CZ85Combat;11151206]what type of use are you planning and what distance?
how much are you willing to spend?[/QUOTE]

Likely never over 200yds, Honestly it will mostly be myself and some paper targets. Maybe I will get more involved in competition at some point... nothing much if any magnified.... Something easy to pull up and fire.... Id guess a few hundred for a price range?? I dont want to waste my money on junk (ie-ncstar

a few hundred for a price range pretty much leaves you buying something used, you can find bushnell and vortex red dot sights that will work. Buying an aimpoint or eotech will cost you more, but they hold their value so ownership cost becomes less than it would if you buy junk.

A millet 1-4 is not a bad choice for a budget ar optic.

Ive heard a lot of good about vortex mostly from the gang here on cgn, but ive read a whole lot of bad about them, hence why ive never ever bought one.
most people say aimpoints are good for close range, i prefer a trijicon rmr, or an eotech personally.

I own aimpoint, trijicon, eotech, browe and elcan, and out of them all my aimpoints are the ones that spend the most time NOT on a rifle, just too blurry for me. I know, I know, Im going against what everyone says, aimpoints are the best blah blah. Frankly they are just a blurry line for me whereas my other red dots are clear crisp dots.

I got one of the Same DDm4's and I put on the Leupold Mark 4 AR 3-9x40
Best upgrade I did though was to buy a set of the new DD overmold furniture and ditch the Magpul stuff they came with previously.

Thanks all, I went looking for some of the ones recommended ....... and boy, was I out to lunch on my budget... Truth be told, everything I have is iron sights except a m77 ruger with an old bushnell on it.

Nikon's P223 line of scopes are specifically designed for .223 and 5.56 calibers are reasonably priced at the $200-$300, with 98 years of experience in making camera lens and scientific optical instrument there is no questions about the quality.

You know who sells them? thanks...

I have a 3x Vortex Optics Spitfire prism Scope on mine. It is made in 3x magnification and an unmagnified version. I paid less than $400 for mine.
