Hi fellow cgners,

I was out today and I found an old scope for sale (think garage sale situation). The seller said it's a ww2 Japanese scope... I tried googling it based on the various markings but I couldn't find a damn thing on it.

I paid ~$50 for it, figuring I'd rather gamble on an unknown scope than on the one armed bandits.

Anyway I'm well aware it may be totally worthless, but whatever the case I'd love to know more.

I figured that posting in milsurp was more appropriate since it came with a canvas olive drab bag... If I was wrong sorry, please move to appropriate.

It looks like a 60's / 70's Japanese rim fire scope. I doubt they would have marked kit issued during WW II in English.

Jeez, you got hosed. You paid about $45 too much for that junk.
BS! OP simply made a small 'investment' in his optics knowledge......a lot of us did exactly the same thing...mine was a brandnew Bushnell that failed to live up to my giddy expectations...pretty common condition I think!

AP is right. Besides I'd rather gamble on something that turns out to be junk than a one armed bandit. At least on the former learn something from failures! :)

No big deal, better $50 wasted on a junk scope with a old school canvas bag than on a couple of 2-4s... Well for me anyway

The seller wasn't very knowledgeable either lol

Thanks for the help guys!:)

Will attach it to one of my air guns, at least it has a cool patina haha. No but seriously I was well aware it was likely worth $0 when I bought it, it was a conscious risk, and hey now I know :).

P.s. since I was totally off probably best to let this thread die since I'm pretty sure this qualifies it as off topic.

As a rule of thumb, if a 7/8" or 3.4" diameter scope is not made in Germany or the United States, it's probably junk and worth maybe $10 max with only a very few exceptions.

Also, no non-allied WW2 scopes would have English on them.

That was an inexpensive scope back when Made in Japan was not a positive thing.

Claven - brilliant, thanks! :) Very much appreciate tips of what to look out for

Light infantry - I'm not giving the whole context here because it's irrelevant, trust me on this one, he wasn't. The 'garage sale' was a loose term and the purchase didn't even occur in Canada. (Not the USA either, I wouldn't dare try to take parts out of the us... Quite happy not in jail)

Any chance a mod could lock this? Again, at this point it's off topic for the forum and seems to be attracting more off topic irrelevant posts.

Like I said, thanks for the help & tips to those that did answer the OP... And as for the rest... Seriously why even bother posting?
