As the girlfriend's C8 clone draws to completion, it's time for me to start thinking about optics. Obviously the Elcan C79A2 would be first choice, but they're not available here in the States and the M4-reticle version of its Stars-and-Stripes twin the M145 is almost impossible to find and hock-a-kidney prices when you do. (Not to mention the green covers...) EOTech 553's are out-of-production and similarly Hock A Kidney problematic, but at least IIRC I *have* seen photos of them employed with the Diemaco BUIS in co-witness.

So, this leaves me looking for things that might have been unit- or private-purchase that were seen over there or would be believable-looking on a Rockpile Replica, preferably despite this being a departure from Official CF Doctrine something that can be setup for co-witness rather than having to rip the optic off to transition to iron and then having to rezero and reinstall.

Some of you have mentioned Aimpoint PRO's, an EOTech 552 (or since we don't need night-vision its sister the 512) might work, I think some of you guys have mentioned Vortex Strike Eagles for an LPVO (which adds a magnification/no-BUIS-without-removal problem), what else was available in that timeframe and would be a plausible fit? (Vortex Spitfire prism would be really nice because they work well with my horrible eyes, but with my luck they're No-Go on the "believability test.")

I did find this old thread, which suggests Aimpoint and EOTech as leading contenders, but before I start working budget numbers to commit to anything I'd like to see what all was out there and found "acceptable for One-Asterisk use."
