Optics mounting, Loctite or not?

I have a Sabre Defence XR-15 flattop with a 14.5" barrel. According to Eotech's manual, they do not recommend Loctiting the scope to the rail. I think the only logical choice is loctiting these things in place for long term durability. Is there any specific reason why Eotech recommends not using Loctite on their optics?

Also, I am running A.R.M.S. 40LP BUIS, should I blue Loctite these on too?

Most of my other firearms have optics and goodies all Loctited in place, I think Loctiting the EOtech and BUIS are neccessary for a gun that is going to see hard use, I don't want my optics going down or flying off at a critical time.

So, I am looking for opinions on to Loctite or not to Loctite. Thanks fellas!

Picatinny/Weaver mounting systems are designed to be used without locktite. Just put it on tight and if necessary check it every year or so.

Blue loctite provides 'peace of mind', and if used judiciously, shouldn't ever cause any issues.....
I always use it to mount BUIS, and Larue includes some for use on it's optics mounts.

LOL.

OK you win. I've never had an issue but I guess you're right there can be failure.

It has that ridiculous torque-limiting knob on it that doesn't help either. No word of a lie, it would be wiggling on the rail after no more than 30 rounds through my AR.

Vise-grips and Loc-tite fixed 'er right up.:D Then I bought an ARMS mount.

ESPECIALLY mount an Eotech with blue locktite/permatex. I've seen several that weren't locktited actually fall off rifles during courses.

A good rule of thumb with black rifles is: if it has a screw, locktite it.

It is also very prudent to use a paint pen to put witness marks on all screws as well. Murphy is alive and well.

The thing a lot of people don't do when using lock-tite is clean screws and holes with degreaser, I have used clear nail polish and keeps screws tight. but lock-tite blue is pretty strong stuff.

Purple loctite 222 is what you are supposd to use on precision screws under 1/4'' . Removes easily with hand tools even the tiniest screws.

I always use loctite - nothing worse than an optic or accessory coming loose; as mentioned I do it for the peace of mind.

I never use loctite on anything in my ARs. Never had an issue with them working loose either. As part of my maintenance at the end of a days shooting, I always check the mounts. One of my ARs has about 6K through it...nothing loose. I don't think it is necessary to use loctite. Your likely to damage the mount if you need to take it off. CF does not loctite Eotechs overseas....and they get seriously hammered about.

I think if you have quality equipment you should not have a concern...

re loctite and eotech

the whole concept of the eotech base mount that interfaces with the picatinny rail is that it can be removed quickly and readily if necessary. You should not ever use loctite or any other thread locker on applications that interface with your weaver or picatinny rails. Mounting a picatinny rail to the weapon is another story.....here you would use a drop of blue (medium) strength to fastners (screws) to ensure that the rail does not move.

You may not be snugging up the external knob that tightens the dovetail clamp of the eotech tight enough to lock on your rail. Also, you may have a non mil-spec rail profile that fits improperly with the eotech, which is mil-spec 1913 picatinny.

I use an Eotech 553 SOCOM with dual a.r.m.s throw levers....this is the very best there is as far as Eotech is concerned. I also use a A11.65 that has a GG&G throw lever in place of the knob. This works very well too. What model Eotech do you have? I may have a spare NIB GG&G throw lever that will fit your model. If you are interested drop me a message indicating your model and desire to purchase the throw lever.
