optics noob question, scope ring's clamp is too dull to fit into dovetail

Hi friends I have a question, I am new to scopes and I can't tell if the problem is my scope rings or the gun's dovetail. I got a 3-7x20 scope for my .22 Remington 572. The gun's dovetail is 11mm and the scope rings are the right size. But the clamp on the scope rings are rounded somewhat, they do not come to a sharp enough edge to fit inside the grooves on the receiver. The grooves are damn narrow but maybe that is normal. I would like to file down the scope ring's jaws but I do not have a tool for that.

I'm thinking the solution is to get new scope rings. Are there any stores online or offline that are especially good for scope rings?

If the rings are tight and the gun shoots good consistently, they are good enough in my eyes.

I can't even get the scope to mount. When I tighten the screws, the jaws slip off the dovetail.

The Remington Model 597 is 11mm, the 572 is grooved for 3/8" rings.

I have measured my dovetail with a vernier (calipers) and the width is 10.5mm (3/8" would be 9.525mm). My gun is an older version, that might explain why it's not 3/8

At the risk of sounding like a lazy guy. If you can change to weaver base, do it. Dovetail is crap.

I agree. Dovetail is crap. I seem to remember having problems with my Model 572 BDL Deluxe Fieldmaster and the scope coming loose. I have a 1" tube 4 x 32mm on mine. The dovetails are so shallow it's hard to get a decent bite on them. Even worse if there's any rust at all in them. Millett or Leupold rings might be the best choices.
