Hey all,
I've been browsing these forums for a while and I've just recently purchased a Russian SKS. So first things first: Thank you all for the multitude of information!

Now its time to get my SKS equipped properly for the range and some hunting. I paid just over $200 for it so I don't really want to spend more than the gun is worth in Optics setup.

So here's what I'm currently thinking of:

- Tasco 1.5-5x32 Scope (found at this eBay link)

Mounted on:
- POSP Centered Side Mount to Weaver Rail from Kalinka

I'm looking for your opinions here - would this be a good setup? waste of money/Junk? Should I get something completely different?

Thanks!

I would recommend a scout optic system. You can get railed upper hand guard replacements and not have to drill and tap the receiver.

I am no expert, I just wouldn't want to do irreparable damage to you receiver just for optics.

Here is what I am talking about.

I picked up a 2.5x NSA scout scope for my CZ858 on the NEA rail and it is holding up really well and is very clear. It was under $50 and I have seen the 4x NSA at Marstar for a good price too.

Just my 2Cents. Different strokes for different folks.

If you want a better scout optic than the NSA I have seen the Bushnell Elite and the Leopolds, but they are worth more than your rifle a few times over.

have a look at http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=423838

He told me he will have the weaver's in around Feb if your interested... I know some here have had really good dealings with Kalinka tho.

I was kind of hoping to still be able to use strip clips and It looks like the scopes he offers would get in the way - I will keep an eye out for his weavers tho. Thanks Hotweels!

Thanks for your input MagnumPeanut.

How do you find using your scope when its mounted so far away from your face? Do you have difficulty focusing on the cross hairs? I think they would look pretty small and hard to see.

Actually the off center POSP's in 24mm clear the strippers... i am not 100% sure the centerd weaver mounts that Kalinka is selling will.

You need a scout scope or handgun scope. They are meant for long eye relief so that the scope only focuses when it is far away from you. Works really well, again, IMO
