To all other owners of the Optima MP-A Shotgun, can any of you notice the gas piston sliding inside the rifle, especially if the bolt is open?

I read my manual and checked several you tube videos and I couldn't figure out if I'm doing something wrong when I assembly my gun.

Thanks

i just picked one today and i dont have any such problem.................i stripped it and put it back together no problem............thanks

Maybe someone can point out what I've done wrong. Here are some pics. You can see in the second pick, when the bolt is open, there's room for the gas piston to slide between the actionbar bushing and the gas cylinder on the barrel. Honestly, wtf? I don't know if this is right or not. I've check the manual several times, but I don't recall the hearing the gas piston sliding back and forth.

Dude, that ain't right if it's sliding around in there. Mine makes no noise like that at all.

I'll take a peek later tonight after the May 24 activities are done and let you know what I think.

i saw the pic and i guess i know whats wrong..............there are two O rings in there....and i guess you are missing one.have a look at the pic i am posting........# 1 o ring is the big one and # 2 is the small one. Make sure you check the small one .....i m sure this will help....thanks

I've got the O-rings in there. You can't see one of them, but I tried placing it in various locations but it doesn't help. The one O-ring on the gas piston is pretty much fixed to it.

I just took a peek at mine. When the action is to the rear, the gas assembly does not slide back at all. It "can" if you pull on it, but it doesn't do it when you just cycle the action.

Not sure why yours is doing this, if you are concerned I'd have it replaced with a new one. Cant imagine that piston slamming back and forth when firing would be a good thing.

Have you shot this one yet?

I have shot it. And I don't remember the gun doing this when I bought. The piston doesn't really slam back and forth, its just free to move back and forth when the action is open. When closed the piston is pretty much fixed in place except for a bit of wiggle. Does your gas piston sit firmly inside of the gas cylinder of the barrel? Do these parts stick together, or is there a lot of slack between them.

I'm wondering why yours doesn't slide freely when the action is open and mine.

Update: I took it to the range and it fires fine. However, It won't cycle winchester AA target load. Have to say, I'm kind of dissapointed with this shotgun.

Are these shotguns just relabeled Tommakawks? I know both are made in Turkey and from the pix i've seen the Hatsan seen to look a whole lot like the Tommahawks. Not trying to jack this thread just noticed the similarity from the op images.

Not sure why yours is problematic.

This is my MP-A:

This vid had 7.5 target loads feed out as fast as the trigger being pulled.
We shot target loads right out of the box and have zero feeding issues.

Round count with no problems is around 600 rounds apprx with target loads.

Try it. Open the bolt, and shake the gun back and forth. If it moves, you'll hear it sliding.

I talked to the dealer, he said he was going to call the distributor. I haven't told them about the lousy performance with target shells. I'll probably do that soon.
