I recently sighted-in my 10/22 at the range for 25 yrds. When I went out hunting rabbit today I realized that at closer ranges my point of impact was a little low.

So what is the best range to be sighting in a .22 for hunting purposes?

Thanks

I'd say 25 yards, holdover for 50+ yards. Anything beyond 75 yards is somewhat pushing it, although many people have taken down gophers at 250 yards.

Try to consider what areas your hunting in and what average ranges you'll be shooting at.

Good luck.

I have an odd solution (which, if you knew me, would seem appropriate).

Using 40gr DynaPoint HP's:
Sight in 1.5" high @ 30 yards. This will put you 2" high at 50, 0.7" high @ 75 and dead on @ 82. You'll be 2.75" low @ 100 and after that you'd better KNOW your range (at least 1" per 5 yards out to 120). :EDIT: At 12 yards you should be dead on and rising out to max high at around 50ish yards

BTW I got this info from a great site:

Happy hunting

If you are low at 15 yards, and dead-on at 25, you are probably also dead-on at about 75.
If you described it correctly, the bullet is crossing the line-of-sight for the first time at 25yards.
