Question for you with the experience. Dependable bullet for coyotes that you know will work if pushed to 400-500 yards?
Bullet will also be used for crows and g-hogs, but want the best tool for coyotes. I'm thinking 50-55gr. v-max, but I'm asking for advice from those that KNOW.
Thanks, Rob.

If distance is the goal, I would spend the few extra dollars for Nosler BT's in 55 grain. Unfortunately with the 1 in 14, that is about as heavy as is practical. Although the vmax are a good bullet (I use Hornady in almost all my rifles for hunting) I believe the BT has a slight accuracy edge, and at 400-500 yards, you need every edge you can get.

FYI, try 38.0 grains of H380 with the 55BT.

You want that is heavy on weight but short on length, with a decent ballistic co-efficient to help it reach out to those ranges. Weight wise you're going to max out somewhere in the 55 gr range, but there are probably a few 60 gr bullets that you might be able to find a load for. I settled on a 55 gr Sierra Game King HPBT for my 1-in-14 .22-250.

Question: do you have a laser rangefinder, or not?

- if you do have a laser rangefinder, then the problem is to find the bullet that has the least wind drift, adequate terminal performance, and really good accuracy.

- if you won't be using a rangefinder, then you might have to make an educated tradeoff between wind drift and trajectory flatness.

(Tidbit: I know for a fact that a Hornady 68 BTHP in a .22-250 1-14" can't hit a 2' x 4' target at 125 yards - even if you try ten times!!)

My 22-250 does very well with the 50gr v-max .less than 2" at 200 yds on paper. can,t say what kind of preformance i would have on a coyote at 300 plus yds as i have never got a shot at one that far away.but inside of 200 it makes them dead real quick.

Thanks. I have a rangefinder and I guess most of the long shots (300 yards +) would be ranged. I am going to look into the 52gr. Amax and likely stick to something over 50gr.
