Hey guys, I had a Ruger Guide Gun in 30-06 last year and really liked the set up. Handy 20" barrel with great rifle sights, I didn't even mind the green stock, only thing that I didn't like was the 8.1lbs unloaded and no scope. Wondering here if there are any other similar options out there maybe a lbs or so lighter?

308 Savage Hog Hunter has a 20" barrel but isn't stainless. Weighs 7.25 lbs. I have one in 223. Decent trigger and handles nicely -

That looks handy but the internal mag and Savages sticky bolt puts me off a bit. If I could take the rifle, make it stainless with a CRF action with a hinged floor plate and a nice walnut stock my search would be pretty much over.

If you haven't tried a Ruger Scout yet I highly recommend them.
The 18.5" non-threaded version is my preference. Sights are great IMO, and mine weighs 7lbs 2oz (no scope/rings).

A 18.5" 308 win gives up very little to a 20" 30-06, and the 1:10 twist of the Ruger handles the heavier bullets well.

Just my 2 cents.

I've though about the Scout, two things I wasn't sure about. The detachable mag and the peep sights instead of the rifle sights. I guess you could always take the rail off and add a NECG rear sight to it?

Pretty much any sight system will fit the scout.... it's a really versatile rig... Especially if you pick up an xs sights rail....

As for the mag, you will notice both GMC and I using a 3 round mag in ours... There is a reason for that....

That is close isn't it! I have only limited experience with Zastava but it seem that the bolt was not to smooth, how do you find yours and whats the wait on her?

8.2 lbs as shown with a Leupold 6x scope and mounts. Bolt smoothness isn't one of its attributes but value and rugged use functionality are. I have more than a few Zastava rifles in the collection and like them all.

Why not buy a 760/7600 and have it cut back to 20"? Add a small scope in low mounts and you'll be impressed at how well it handles.
