Options for dosing small loads?

Hi All,

I am using a RCBS uniflow powder doser. I only load handgun ammo so loads are in the range of 2-15 gr or so. It is really painful to adjust for small loads because a tiny turn on the adjuster screw makes a too large difference and also I suspect that the stroke of the cylinder is so small that it is difficult to dose small loads.

I was wondering what options there are to make this better? I understand that RCBC makes two dosing cylinders one 1-100 and one 1-50 gr. and i have probably the 1-100 ...

Will it make a difference to get the 1-50? Or should I get a different doser that is more suited for small loads?

I'm using the uniflow, I'm using the 1-50 grain cylinder as I'm not loading anything over 40 grns. The pistol loads are fine. light 9mm loads with some powders take a bit of finesse ,but I'm used to it now.
I'd go with the pistol style meter

it was a real pain to dose 2.8 gr bullseye .... After some research I think I will sell it and get a Hornady L&L with 1-10 gr cylinder. that should dose nicely

I've got a Harrell's measure that I enjoy using for a lot of the handgun and small loads.

Part of the enjoyment stems from having found it a a gun show for $40....

I have an RCBS uniflo thrower and it does well throwing 3.8 and 4.2 gr of titegroup with the small pistol drum and seems easy enough to adjust. The larger drum is meant for rifles and has too big of a channel to consistently throw small charges.

For most of my pistol/revolver loads I use a RCBS Little Dandy. Hand held, I move it over each case in the loading block and can do 50 cases in under two minutes. Having a full set of rotors helps a lot

I have two Hornady LNL powder measures. They come with the rifle drum and insert so you need to buy a pistol drum and insert. They both throw consistently as low as 2.5 grains of Titegroup or Bullseye and will stay within a tenth of a grain with Unique as that is as low as anything I load for. I also have a RCBS Uniflow with a large drum. It would be cheaper to get a small drum and insert for your Uniflow.

I am a bit torn ... the RCBS pistol insert is 0-50 gr while the rifle one is 0-100gr, so not too much difference.... The hornady pistol drum is 0-10 gr. I think this will dose much better to small loads since smaller cylinder diameter. If I buy the RCBS pistol drum and its still not working well I have to still get the Hornady one .. This might be a buy once, cry once situation with RCBS going on the EE
