The ORA conducted Service Rifle match #1 this past weekend (May 9-10th) at Connaught Ranges during a brief spell of August like weather.
Actually, the match was conducted in it's entirety on May 9th. All four stages (21 sub-stages) in one day, with range clean up in time to hit the mess for supper. We also made all our timings for breakfast and lunch as well. Fantastic way to avoid threatening weather conditions. The forecast was for thunderstorms so the organization of the match was adjusted to trim down time by switching to 3 relays from the normal 4. Thanks to the organizational skills of our conducting officer and cooperation of range staff and participants we pulled it off. The only rain that was seen on the range was a "refreshing" downpour as we returned down range after lunch. The biggest effect was to make sure the target faces we cleaned of range dust.
We had a mixed group of senior (including two Queens Medalists) and tyro shooters for the weekend and everybody followed along with senior shooters mentoring the new participants as to procedures on the firing line and the butts. The whole shooting event went off like clockwork.
Kathy from the DCRA kept up on stats and we had results for review after supper on Saturday night. Big nod to her for keeping all those numbers straight in an efficient and correct manner.
On Sunday we assembled on the porch of the DCRA office for presentations right after breakfast. All was complete and competitors we off home for Mother's Day festivities by 0830, hours before our normal timing.
Big thanks to all involved with special mention to the advance target prep party on Friday evening and the party who completed final tear down of targets in the butts Saturday evening. Extra big thanks to Tim K for keeping us all moving in good time so we could beat out any rain. The Tim-Fu was in full effect to keep us essentially dry all day and happy.
Now if can just get Tim to provide predictions of my shooting success like he did with one of us. "You know, you're gonna shoot a 50 tomorrow" Son of a gun, that shooter did exactly that.
