I had some questions as to how I track my Ontario Rifle Association CQB scores throughout the year. The answer was "Poorly." So! Here’s an Excel spread sheet to track your ORA CQB match progress throughout the year.
Created in Excel 2016. No idea if it’ll work in older versions.

Finally, see all of your ORA CQB scores for a season in one place!

ora-cqb-screenshot.png.jpg

Features:
Super simple to use, even for us non-Excel Guru types.
Non-user entry fields are locked to prevent user from breaking the spreadsheet.
Supports 10 matches per season.
Notes field for each match shot.
Calculates # of matches by any using any match that has data entered. (Used for Averages calculations.)
Calculates Average and Highest scores and Average V-Bulls for the season.
Displays the “Hits” field in red if you enter too many shots for that target. (ex. 5 rounds when you should have 3.)
Calculates scores for each match and overall match score.

Note: The auto-calculated “averages” fields will display an error until one match has data entered. Divide by zero and all that.

I hope you find this useful. If you have any feedback, please use the contact form. (http://planetmarauder.com/wordpress/contact/)
If you’d like something similar done up for your events, let me know.

Great.

Would be really interested in the CQB matches. Are they hosted in Base Borden or somewhere else?

Couldn't find any information on ORA website. Anywhere I can get more information about the rules, time and how to join?

Thanks.

Yes, shot at Camp Borden. Langemark range.

We shoot practice drills in the morning, and then shoot a full match.

Just show up with rifle, pistol, mags, holster, rifle and sling. 50 rounds of pistol ammo and 200 of rifle.

In the spring the calendar on the ORA website will show the dates.

Each shooter has a safety guy beside him to make sure he goes and stops as required. With a newbie, the Safety guy will remind him at each step what is supposed to happen.

In the second video you will see the old guy make some mistakes, including dropping a mag. His safety guy (Barny) passes him a back up mag.

So show up and jump right in.

Didn't notice they have a CQB match there.

Ahh gotcha. We've been holding the CQB matches since.. shesh.. 2008? Like Ganderite said, come on out and jump right in! It's great fun with a great group of people.

We also do Service Rifle (100-500 yard, snaps, movers, deliberates and run downs) and Ganderite runs our Sporting Rifle shoots, a fun 100-200-300 yard day. (Snaps, movers and deliberates.)

Will definitely keep eyes on the ORA website around Spring for schedule.

Would it be better getting a vest with many pouch capacities to carry probably 8-10 magazines or a holster with few magazine pouch for rifle and pistol would be enough?

Any automatic rifle would do or need to be AR style ones?

Thank you.

No “Automatic” rifles allowed.

In regard to other semi auto magazine fed rifles yes we have had many different ones. I have seen tavor sar 21, x95, robinson arms xcr, t97 flat top and regular, sks, m1 carbines and many others. The best results would be magazine box fed style to allow for quick mag changes but no it doesnt have to be ar15 pattern rifle. One thing i disliked running a t97 was the safety being located at the rear of the receiver. We use the safety when we are moving from one line to another.

In regard to vest this is one of those personal preferences. I use a vest with slots for 6 rifle mags and 2 pistol. Lots of guys use battle belts and ipsc style holster belt combos. You will need 5 rifle mags that hold 5 rounds and two pistol mags for any of the cqb matches. Pistol mags will be 5 rounds max.

Thanks to Marauder for the xcel sheet.

Nice spreadsheet Dave, I hope to get out and shoot more matches this year.

Was thinking about writing an app for my tablet to let you run the firing line at a match. It would keep track of the match number, what relay is shooting, which one is safety, match details (distances and timings) and have a stop watch with BIG numbers to time each match. My brain is old, remembering these details is tough and I hate carrying a clipboard, stopwatch, whistle and megaphone.

Thank you very much for the detailed information.

Will be prepared for this year's CQB.

Service Rifle requires lots of rifle mags to be carried.

CQB needs you to carry 5 mags, of which only 3 have to be available fast. We shoot against the clock.

In the shoot that uses 5 mags, there are 4 mags in one relay and one in another. You can start the shoot with the single mag in your back pocket, one mag in your hand and 3 ready to go in a pouch.

For pistol, you should have a 2-mag pouch.

A minimalist set up - use your pockets:
