I'm just curious to discover what kinda setups people were using at the Championships since I was not one of the FPO's or a Wing O. As usual, I'm down in the butts being the most beloved Butts O.

I'm shooting a Bushy lower with a factory Armalite 20" upper flat top. I've using a Leupold MR/T 3x9x36mm with M1 turrets ( I cannot read the standard target turrets without my reading glasses on the line. )

I've mounted the Leupold 30mm tube scope with Leupold Mark 4 HIGH rings... super cheek weld. Hardly any ghostly grey front sight tower showing up in the sight picture. I'm using just a standard A2 buttstock. Nothing fancy.. works for me...

I shot all the deliberates at 9x and rundowns at 6x power. This scope is a nice basic scope for the 12 Matches. By the way, I did not even break 500 points. And I'm trying my hardest to avoid having my first hip operation (15 years ago) re-lined, so I'm delaying for as long as I can stand the pain of the rundowns.

Space guns ? Did not see any of them with barrels longer than 20". I do know that other shooters who did use Leupolds at 4.5x14x50mm configurations had switched for this match. They (2 of them) are shooting Leupold 1.5x5x20mm setups with target turrets. Regardless of optics and power, they still shot fabulous scores (they are excellent shooters to begin with). :D

Any other shooters there with their personal bangsticks ?

Armalite 16" mid-length HBAR, 1-9 twist flat-top upper, chromed chamber and bore.
Armlite lower with A2 buttstock. Gun taped some cardboard to it to raise the comb a bit.
Leupold 3-9 MR/T with M1 turrets on top of a GG&G GS-1 Rail. Like Hungry,, I used 9x for the deliberates and the prone snaps. When kneeling I use 6x, for standing I use 4x. I don't sit anymore.
TSR Rings.
Ammo: IVI,, which clocks about 2950fps out of this barrel.

Why the rail? I found that with the rings I had,, the scope was ideally positioned with a good cheek weld. The problem was that the scope was pretty low and was getting an awkward and ghastly shadow from the front site post. So,, the rail raised it up enough to eliminate the shadow and also allowed me to move the scope forward a bit more as well. Now it was too high to get a good check weld,, so I gun taped some card board cuttings to the top of the stock and carved it out so that the cocking handle would function.

The whole thing weighs 9.1 lbs unloaded,,, and looks like this:

I didn't see any over the top fancy rigs,, although Sniper1's rig was pretty neat looking.

Of the 6 shooters who scored higher than 550,,
- 3 used the standard C7/Elcan/IVI mix.
- 1 used a custom built rifle.
- T. Krahn uses a stock 20" A4 with an Elcan.
- 1 used what I mention above.

Edited to add the pic,,

I ran the following:

Rifle: Bushmaster 14.5" 1/9 HBAR flattop with collapsable stock.
Sight: Trijicon TA-11 with circle of death.
Ammo: Black Hill 68gr Match HP

It ran very good no malfunctions or stoppages.
I had tested out the ammo and I was getting 1 to 1.5 moa @ 100yrds.
I had never shot this setup past 100yrds, so shooting 200 & 300 was interesting, I need to re-zero my sight for a 200yrd center of circle, I had zeroed at 100yrds center but found I had to use the 500yrd stacia line for 300yrds shots. Due to the nature of the circle it is harder to use holdover accuratly, I definatly need more trigger time behind this setup to better my score.

Was great fun :D

Does MIL-ARM actually have it are is it like every other line they have. They get exclusivity on a product tied it up and never bring any in.

Believe me I have complained repeatedly at SHOT to Jeff Hoffman of Black Hills.

MILARM wanted me to pay more than US retail in ADVANCE for them to bring ammo in... - yeah sure I will get right on that

I wonder why so many types of configurations are allowed to be used at the Nationals. I don't believe that anyone was shooting iron sights, but the optics ranged from Elcans to Sniper scopes mounted on anything from a stock C7/AR-15 to a fully customized, pimped up AR-15.

Just wondering why the rules pertaining to equipment have not been stricter at this competition.

This was the Provincials. Any rifle, any sight. Any shooter,, all are invited,, I don't think it is wise to turn anyone away.

I don't see any reason to restrict anything. I don't see much advantage in what the equipment does or what ammo the guy shoots.

The stock C7/Elcan or stock AR15/Elcan held its own against those with "pimped" up kit. So why bother restricting?

As for iron sights?,, this is the 21st Century.

Although i posted her in the other ORA Service rifle 2005 thread, here she is again:

Scope: C79 Elcan (not the aimpoint clone)
upper: Armalite midlength (1:9 chrome-lined)
lower: Bushmaster, DPMS internals, M4 6-pos. stock
ammo: Win 55 gr soft-point

For the ammo, I wanted some 62gr or heavier, so that bullet drop at 300m would match the IVI military ball, but the only thing i could find in Mtl the week before the match was that Win white box stuff.
The 55 gr actually worked well as there wasn't alot of cross-wind on saturday and bullet drop at 300m was correctly compensated by the Elcan's preset.

I've put the flashlight at 6 o'clock... to act as an underbarrel weight

I'm just starting to get used to using a forward vertical grip.
I found a good way of using it for deliberate shooting is to grap it like the mag well, but with the palm of the hand a bit higher; at the junction of the vert. grip and forearm.
Still experimenting with this rig...

Oh yeah, Magpuls are great when you're used to fire with the mag touching the ground !

Shelldrake,

Is that a memory aid taped to your stock, or an identification badge of some kind?

It is a memory aid. It is a biege 1" square sticky patch that is used to patch out the targets with. I write on it my site settings for 100 to 500. I read it then set it. Comes is very handy on the big rundown where all 5 site settings get dialed in.
