So... without realizing the ORA service clinic being cancelled (and not being able to contact the organizers), I blindly followed the schedule ventured to Mons on Saturday morning, only to find myself among a bunch of long range shooters. I am glad that I did drag my ass out of the bed because I had a blast! Thanks to Rick, Paul. I had a great time shooting my first sniper match! movers and all that!

Thanks to everyone for the great day! now I am going to get my own 308 for next year's matches. 8)

Looks like we have another one hooked :D
So many people are afraid to come out and give this long range stuff a try.
They may come out and find that they don't know everthing there is to know about long range shooting. But hey, we will teach you!
The ORA has something for just about any centerfire rifle you own.
The only thing you have to fear is how much you are going to like it, and how much money you will need to spend to shoot all the games 8)

Ric is a driving force in the ORA when it comes to getting people out to try it.
Glad you had a good time.

When is the next match and can I use a 300 winmag with a muzzle break on it ?

The 2005 season is put to bed. 2006 coming up likely starting in April maybe May...check the ORA website next year.

Muzzle breaks OK in Precision/sniper... not allowed in F-class.

Maybe send Paul or Ric a little reminder to send in the results to the ORA webmaster. If Mike is not off shooting at a world cup or something he puts the results up PDQ.

The 2005 season may be put to bed, but there are a couple of "winter" ORA matches at Burlington. We just had the 50m Rimfire match. Ric's running the sniper match (any rifle, any sites, 50m indoor, benched) at Burlington on Dec 10th. Saddly, I'll be taking a RO course that day.

Ric also has a couple of training/practice sessions scheduled in Q1 2006. And then there's the .22 rimfire speed shoot on Feb 11th....I'm running that one. Any rimfire, any sights, mags or tubes no matter......fast as you can go....reactive targets.

See http://63.89.55.16/ora/2001_events.php for details.

Doug,
Most of your questions can be answered on the ORA web page.
www.ontariorifleassociation.org

There is some kind of shooting for just about any kind of centerfire rifle you have or want to get.
From black powder cartridge to unlimited F class shooting to full-bore target rifle.
For someone new to the game I suggest a fast twist (1:9-1:8 twist).223 with a good scope or iron target sights.
This will allow you to shoot out to 1000 yards. Cost of the rifle can be anywhere from a few hundred to $5000+.
Don't be afraid to shoot with a factory gun, you won't have to shoot against the $5000 guns.
We have a class for you.
Look into taking in one of the Intro Days that the ORA puts on, assuming you are from Ontario.
You will find a link to the Intro Days on the ORA website.
